GMB's Richard Madeley leaves viewers raging after awkward Max George name blunder

Good Morning Britain viewers were left raging after Richard Madeley got Max George’s name wrong live on air.

Alongside Charlotte Hawkins, Richard, 66, welcomed The Wanted’s Max onto the show to talk about his late friend and bandmate Tom Parker.

At the end of the segment, Richard said: “Tom, it was really good to speak to you, I know you’re old friends with Tom and it was really nice to talk to you.”

Immediately, viewers took to social media to slam the presenter for the name mix-up,

One fumed: “It was bad enough Richard Madeley constantly interrupting Max but him ending the interview with thank you for coming on Tom really is the cherry on the cake.”

“@GMBCan someone tell Richard to pay attention, he had just been listening to Max talk about his friend Tom for 10mins and then still calls Max, Tom. That was a car crash TV moment,” another tweeted.

While a third raged: “Did madeley just call MAX out the wanted Tom. honestly @GMB sort this and get him off . He was talking over Max all the way through that interview which is rude anyway but worse as it was about his grief and mental health.”

Max came on the morning show to talk about Tom who passed away at the end of March aged 33.

The singer, 33, praised the NHS and the care that Tom received while he was battling an inoperable brain tumour.

“The hospice were absolutely amazing, even with us, they’d keep it quiet and let us stay longer. It was so good and they made us feel so welcome, and the way they looked after him – it was a beautiful place,” he told Richard and Charlotte, 47.

Speaking about the pain of losing Tom, Max said: “Mentally I’m alright, it’s more the physical things right now, the physical pain of not having him. It hurts, I just miss him, and,” before Richard asked another question.

Viewers took to social media once again to point out the outspoken presenter’s constant interrupting.

“Talking over Max all the time! So unprofessional,” one wrote.

Another agreed: “Totally agree he’s just done the same with Max George from the Wanted. Please let the guests speak clearly Max had so much more to say.”

While a third fumed: “Richard, can you stop interrupting Max when he’s bravely sharing his grief with you. You lack empathy, style, compassion and humanism. FFS … it’s not about YOU!!!!”
