Actress and singer Selena Gomez has entered her third decade, having spent an incredible 20 years in the spotlight following her Disney breakthrough.

Selena Gomez got her first break as a child actor in 2002 as a character on Barney & Friends.

She met her long-time actress friend Demi Lovato while on the show.

Proper fame, however, came when the actress began landing TV roles on the Disney Channel.

She had a recurring role on the channel’s Hannah Montana series in 2007 as pop star Mikayla, with fellow singer Miley Cyrus playing the lead character

The Dallas-raised actor successfully snared the main role in the network’s series Wizards Of Waverly Place, about a family of witches who own a restaurant in New York.

Getting the gig convinced Gomez and her mother to move to Los Angeles to help focus on her career, with Wizards Of Waverly Place becoming a hit.

She went on to voice Dracula’s daughter in the animated film Hotel Transylvania and featured in movies such as Getaway and teen-flick Spring Breakers.

With six albums to her name, she is known in Hollywood circles as a “triple threat” star due to her success in singing, performing and acting.

Her biggest UK hit was Lose You To Love Me, which she released in 2019 and peaked at number three on the Official Chart.

The American-Mexican singer has campaigned for mental health services since being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020.

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that affects your moods, making them swing from one extreme to another.

After making her diagnosis public, Gomez said she felt “a huge weight” had been lifted.

“I could take a deep breath and go, ‘OK, that explains so much’,” she told Elle.

Gomez said using social media less and not personally running her accounts had helped improve her mindset.

“I don’t have it on my phone, so there’s no temptation,” she said.

“In the past, I could spend hours looking at other people’s lives.

“I would find myself down nearly two years in someone’s feed, and then I’d realise, ‘I don’t even know this person!’”

To mark her last birthday, Gomez asked her social media followers to donate to a fund she had set up.

She encouraged them to give to the Rare Impact Fund, which she founded the year she found out she had bipolar.

The fund aims to increase access to mental health services in educational settings.

She has also previously confirmed being diagnosed with lupus – a condition where the body targets healthy parts of the body, often causing inflammation – and required a kidney transplant from her friend and actress Francia Raisa.
