BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty makes unlikely demand to co-star in awkward scenes

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty appeared to be in a rather playful mood after she demanded her colleague Mike Bushell to pose as a statue.

During the latest episode of the popular morning show, Mike was in Birmingham discussing the Commonwealth Games via video link and began his segment by positioning himself as one of the statues behind him.

However as he came to a close, with host Charlie Stayt thanking him for his time, Naga told him that he must also position himself like The River Sculpture located in the water feature behind him.

Charlie said: “We’ll see you later on. Thank you.”

But Naga quickly chimed: “Well hold on a minute Mike, well Mike starts by doing the statue poses so I was just looking behind you.”

Glancing nervously, Mike agreed to pose like the famous The River Sculpture , however, a crew member could be heard shouting: “Not on the edge!”

Mike said: “Ok, go on then! It’s a lot easier than leaning.”

He continued: “Bit near the water but don’t worry that was four years ago, we’ve forgotten what happened on the Gold Coast.”

In the studio, Naga replied: “Hands to one side and lean nicely.”

“Very nice, stay there. Stay like that until the next time we see you.”

Giggling away, Naga then told Mike to be “careful” as he tried his best to keep the awkward position.

Commenting on the scene, one unimpressed viewer joked: “Statue would do a better job of doing the show than some of the current reporters.”

The news comes after reporter Mike recently walked off half way through his interview with gymnast Dominic Cunningham while they were discussing the Commonwealth games.

Talking about Dominic’s Commonwealth victory four years ago, Mike said: “The last time we had a meeting on the beach, didn’t we? And now we’re on the concrete.”

“I was a bit nervous about seeing Dominic today because literally four years ago after Dominic won gold and the team won gold, we met on a beach and Dominic wanted to celebrate at the end.

“And so you got us all doing somersaults, but that was on the sand, that was on the beach. You took over presenting as well, didn’t you? But we are on concrete now.”

Dominic then replied: “Mike, Mike… Don’t do this to me.”

But Mike added: “I’m off, I’ve got to go, I’ve got to get ready…”

Baffled by his disappearance, Dominic said: “He always does this to me.”
