BBC The One Show's Alex Jones reassures Gary Barlow after 'doomed' career confession

Take That frontman Gary Barlow has revealed the shocking moment he knew his musical career in America came crashing down.

As hosts Alex Jones and Jermain Jenas welcomed the singer onto the panel on the latest episode of the BBC’s The One Show, Gary, 51, was asked about an episode where he travels to America and found himself singing infront of music icons Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.

Gary went on to say that a sudden change in song format left him performing on stage “not knowing what the hell” he was doing.

He told viewers at home: “It was a funny one because about two hours before the big launch the record label said you’re gunna be performing to a remixed version of your song.

“And it was all jumbled up so it was like the verse was jumbled up with the chorus and I walked on to the stage not knowing what the hell I was doing.”

He added that the performance led to the demise of his career across the pond.

“And of course it wall went completely wrong. And that was kind of farewell to America for me I’m afraid.”

Alex Jones tried her best to reassure Gary, saying: “you don’t need America, you’ve got us,” as Gary chimed in: “I just go there on holiday now.”

Gary also confirmed reports that Take That are set to embark on their highly anticipated world tour next year.

In an interview with The Sun last year, Gary said that he will reunite with bandmates Mark Owen and Howard Donald for a series of live dates in a year’s time.

However, he had hoped to get Jason Orange back on board, but despite the group’s attempts to convince him, the band are returning as a trio.

Robbie Williams will also likely be absent from the line-up, He returned to the group in 2010 and for some sporadic appearance here and there, but a full-time reunion is not on the cards.

Gary said: “Jason isn’t coming back. Take That is Mark, Howard and me for the next few years.

“We’ll have a nice planning year in 2022. I don’t think we’ll release anything or tour, but the following year – 2023 – will be a big year for Take That.

“It’s been a while since 2019. I’m ready to get back to my day job now. That’s my thing, being in the group.”
