Queen's unlikely celebrity pals – James Bond star, Hollywood icon and Spice Girl

Her Majesty the Queen sadly passed away on September 9, at her Scottish home, Balmoral

Serving our country as Monarch for seven decades, Queen Elizabeth had been a constant in all of our lives since many of us can remember.

Although she devoted her life to carrying out her duties as the longest-serving Monarch of Great Britain, the Queen mingled with some of the most well-known and famous faces.

Having met singers, dancers, TV personalities and some of the greatest celebrity icons from the past 70 years – it’s safe to say she bonded with a fair amount of them.

Dame Anna Wintour

Her Majesty The Queen appeared to be all smiles when she met the legendary editor of Vogue Anna Wintour.

The pair sat side by side and chatted as they attended Richard Quinn’s runway show on February 20, 2018.

The Queen beamed as she made a huge fashion statement on her own for London Fashion Week, donning one of her legendary bright pale turquoise jackets with matching skirts.

She accessorised the outfit with a dazzling broach she wore on her left shoulder, as she was caught giggling with Mrs Wintour who was wearing a cream dress with floral prints.

She was first appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 Birthday Honours but in May 2017 ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Wintour was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen for her contributions to fashion and journalism

Daniel Craig (CMG)

Daniel Craig is known to have had an excellent relationship with the Queen.

In 2006, Queen Elizabeth attended the Royal Premiere for the 21st Bond film Casino Royale where she beamed as she greeted the 007 actor in November 2006.

Her Majesty then took part in a famous sketch with the actor who reprised his role as James Bond as part of her entrance to the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

He was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to film and theatre by the Queen.

The Obama’s

President Obama and First Lady Michelle met Queen Elizabeth in 2009 with a record-breaking visit.

Her Majesty broke “protocol” for the first time in a number of years when she and Michelle shared a warm embrace.

The pair returned in 2011 for a two-day visit to once again meet with The Queen and The Duke Of Edinburgh as well as Prince William and The Duchess Of Cambridge.

During the state banquet, The Queen and President Obama each raised a glass in honour of each other.

April 2016 marked the last time the Obama’s met with the Queen and Duke as president and first lady. After a warm greeting, Prince Philip personally drove the Obamas to the Sovereign’s Entrance in the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle for a special luncheon.

The pair were also famous for their support of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games where they took part in an advert alongside her Majesty in 2016.

Dame Helen Mirren

Dame Helen Mirren has had several interactions with Her Majesty.

In the Queen’s 2003 Birthday Honours, Mirren was appointed a Dame (DBE) for services to drama, with investiture taking place at Buckingham PalaceDame

But the legendary actress famously played the monarch in the 2006 Stephen Frears helmed film The Queen, which told the story of the immediate reaction after the tragic death of Princess Diana.

Feeling uneasy, the actress personally wrote to the Queen, saying at the time: “I realised we were investigating a profoundly painful part of her life, so I wrote to her.”

Which she received a letter back from her secretary. She later played the monarch again in 2013 for the West End production, The Audience.

But The Queen didn’t seem to mind too much when Dame Helen took to the stage as Queen Elizabeth I as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration broadcast on ITV where Her Majesty avidly watched at The Royal Box.

Dame Joan Collins

Joan Collins is not just recognised as one of Britain’s greatest ever actresses, known for her role in Dynasty, but The Queen was very fond of the star.

In the 1997 New Year Honours, she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama by The Queen.

Later in 2015, she was given a damehood and was promoted to Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in that year’s New Year Honours list for services to charity.

The Queen always beamed whenever she saw Dame Joan, such as when Her Majesty hosted the actress at a Dramatic Arts reception at Buckingham Palace where the pair were spotted beaming as they greeted each other.

Dame Joan was also one of the huge names to lead the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

The Beckham’s

Both David and Victoria Beckham have connections to Her Majesty, The Queen.

For the Golden Jubilee in 2002, David escorted Kirsty Howard as she presented the Jubilee Baton to the Queen.

Their relationship started warmly as he admitted he was stunned when the monarch first enquired: “How’s Victoria, how’re the kids?”.

The England football legend was later made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2003 for services to football.

He met the queen on many occasions due to his involvement in the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards and the photographs of their meetings showed the pair smiling when Queen Elizabeth welcomed him into Buckingham Palace.

Meanwhile, Victoria has her own connections, as she was honoured with an OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to the fashion industry.

Barbra Streisand

The Queen was all smiles when she greeted Funny Girl superstar Barbra Streisand at the premiere of the sequel Funny Lady.

Upon meeting the Monarch, the musical actress initially followed Royal protocol before asking: “Your Majesty, why is it that women have to wear white gloves to meet you and men don’t?”.

Her Majesty took this comment in her stride as she displayed her famous sense of humour as she cheekily replied: “l have to think about that one. I suppose it’s tradition.”

Dame Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lumley jas always had connections to the Royal Family.

In 1995 as part of the New Year Honours list, the comic actress was honoured with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire by The Queen.

She is known to have relationships with Princess Anne, Prince Charles and The Duchess Of Cornwall, attending the wedding of the Prince Of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005.

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in 2021, the Absolutely Fabulous actress wrote the glowing biography, A Queen for All Seasons: A Celebration of Our One and Only Queen Elizabeth II.

The documentary maker was later made a Dame (DBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to drama, entertainment and charity.

Joanna is also famously loyal to the Royal Family and claimed she “decided not to watch” The Crown whilst she claimed she was “lucky enough to be friendly with” some of the firm.

Angelina Jolie (DCMG)

In 2014 at Buckingham Palace, Angelina Jolie was personally presented with the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George by Queen Elizabeth II.

The Maleficent actress was given the honour for services to UK foreign policy and the campaign to end war zone sexual violence.

At the time, Angelina had nothing but glowing words about Her Majesty, explaining: “You know she’s just this really lovely lady who really cares about people around the world, and she really cares about the future,”

The actress added: “She wants your grandkids and her grandkids to be able to be running around, enjoying nature and other cultures… She thinks that really matters and I agree with her.”
