Emmerdale turns 50 years old on October 16 and it has repeatedly pushed the boundaries for decades.
The ITV soap has been hit with several complaints over the years due to dramatic scenes and hard-hitting storylines.
To mark the milestone, a storm is set to rip through the village and leave many villagers in grave danger.

While some will make it through to another day, it has been reported that at least one death with occur over the next few episodes.
With fans set to be left heartbroken, Daily Star has taken a look back at Emmerdale’s most complained about episodes from years gone by.
Dog-napping scandal
Back in 2016, Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) ran a dog-napping scam.
ITV viewers were left disgusted and claimed the storyline would encourage copycats.
Between the two main episodes the storyline featured in, Ofcom received more than 550 Emmerdale complaints showing that the soap fans public will not tolerate harm coming to their beloved pooches.
Acid attack
Ross was doused with acid in his face in horror scenes in 2018.
It was a case of mistaken identity with Debbie Dingle’s (Charley Webb) plan to get revenge on ex Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) going horribly wrong.
Fans of the continuing serial drama were horrified at the scenes, but the show was cleared after Ofcom assessed the 366 complaints thoroughly.
Murder spree
Over 150 people complained to the watchdog during the dark storyline featuring serial killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu).
The evil nurse’s attempt to gas her sister Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson)in the woods after Misery-ing the for weeks was too much for some.
Meena was sent to prison for life earlier this year following her murdering spree which saw her take the lives of Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger), Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) and Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon).
Rape horror
Back In 2017, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) married boyfriend Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather) and discovered to her horror the extent of his abusive ways.
He raped her while she was still wearing her wedding dress, before gaslighting her into believing it was normal.
The disturbing scenes attracted 101 complaints from angry viewers, and Ofcom launched an investigation.
However the soap was later cleared.
Gerry’s death
Evil Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson) committed the ultimate crime when he murdered fan favourite Gerry Roberts (Shaun Thomas) in 2018.
Lachlan bashed Gerry over the head with a large rock after discovering her murdered most of his own family.
The disturbing scenes attracted 101 complaints and Ofcom launched an investigation.
Actor Thomas featured in the Netflix romantic drama movie Ali & Ava in 2021.
His other biggest part came earlier this year in the BBC true-crime drama Four Lives.
Sex attack
Emmerdale viewers were completely disgusted when Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) was raped by Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie).
The brutal attacked played out before the watershed as he attacked her in her bedroom and threw her down onto the bed.
While the rape itself was not shown, the harrowing scenes caused horror amongst fans as disturbing sounds could be heard.
Ofcom received 39 complaints over the scenes.
In a shocking twist, Victoria later began dating Lee’s brother Luke Posner (Max Parker).
Away from the show, Lee and Luke Posner actors are engaged.
Taking to Instagram, Max said he popped the question to Kris while on holiday.
Sharing a picture, the couple could be seen kissing with Kris showing off his new ring.
