While Murder, She Wrote was Ron’s big break in 1985, he had a string of other screen appearances throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
He appeared in the likes of Bewitched, The Twilight Zone, The Monkees, I Dream of Jeannie and Wonder Woman before making it big as Sheriff Mort Metzger.
The screen star also had more than 25 film credits, including Evel Knievel, A Time For Dying and The Benchwarmers.
He even had two upcoming projects in the works – The Curse Of The Gorgon and Quigley 2.
Tributes have been rolling in for Ron from upset fans, who are still mourning the loss of Angela Lansbury too.
One person said: “First Jessica now Mort. RIP Ron Masak.”
Another said: “Rest in peace, Ron Masak. Jessica Fletcher is already there to welcome you to the heavens, Sheriff.”
A third tweeted: “Gosh. Ron Masak who played Mort Metzger has died just nine days after Angela Lansbury who played Jessica Fletcher. Both of Murder, She Wrote fame. May they rest in peace.”
Ron was born in Chicago in 1936 and died in California on Thursday, October 20.
Acting talent ran in the family, as his cousin Mary Gross was on Saturday Night Live for four years as well as That’s So Raven and Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
His other cousin Michael Gross played Steven Keaton on Family Ties and Gummer in the Tremors film franchise.
Ron’s London-born Murder, She Wrote co-star Angela Lansbury died on October 11 at the age of 96 in Los Angeles.
