Emmerdale fans gobsmacked as Faith Dingle returns at own funeral after tragic death

Emmerdale fans were left gobsmacked this week as Faith Dingle returned to our TV screens after her tragic demise.

The Dingle matriarch, played by Sally Dexter, was killed off at the start of October after a battle with terminal breast cancer, and ended up taking an overdose to end her own life.

But on Friday (October 28), as the village turned up at church to bid farewell to Faith and Liv in their joint funeral, fans were stunned to see Faith return.

It came as her pal Eric Pollard read out her speech in church, with a flashback scene showing Faith sitting down in the pub to write the words for him, which told her family she’d save a seat for them at a bar in heaven.

The emotional speech had fans sobbing, as her daughter Chas collapsed over her mum’s coffin with Cain at her side.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “This episode is already breaking my heart seeing Faith writing the speech for her funeral, and Aaron crying cause he couldn’t speak at his sister’s funeral. Just want to give all the Dingles a hug they have gone through so much!”

“How lovely to see Faith again!” someone else echoed, while a third fan wrote: “That was so well done. A final smile at the camera. God, I’m gonna miss Faith.”

“Flashback alert!” someone else pointed out, while another emotional Emmerdale fan said: “Faith breaking the fourth wall cause she is a legend!”

Later, Chas appeared to forgive Moira for lying about Faith’s overdose, thanking the farmhand for being there for Faith and Cain at the end of her life.

And an emotional scene saw the entire village turn out in mourning clothes as they lined the streets for the double funeral – including Zak Dingle, who appeared via video chat in the line-up.

Thankfully, Faith’s memory kept the villagers in good spirits as Bear named a drink the “Flaming Faith” after her at the pub.

Meanwhile, Vinny was surrounded by his family as he grieved for his wife Liv, playing back a video of her laughing as he told her: “I miss you so much.”

The funeral ensured there wasn’t a dry eye in the house

It comes after Faith actress Sally Dexter admitted she felt “guilt” over her soap exit.

She told Daily Star at the Inside Soap Awards: “It’s quite a euphoric feeling in some ways.

“But then there’s a slightly guilty feeling because you know that people are really going through this. This is real and it matters.

“It felt like the most enormous privilege to do it and with such fantastic people around me and such a wonderful team. It just felt like an honour.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV.
