Escape to the Chateau fans gobsmacked as couple reveal mysterious hidden room

Escape to the Chateau never fails to leave fans gasping with Dick and Angel Strawbridge’s stunning renovation skills – but they couldn’t believe what they saw on Sunday night (November 13).

The beloved TV couple have enchanted Channel 4 viewers for years by transforming their 15-year-old Château de la Motte-Husson in Pays de la Loire, France.

House proud Dick and Angel have documented their lofty Chateau renovation journey since the first series aired in 2016 and are now at their ninth and final season.

But it’s clear there’s still plenty of surprises in store during the final series, because Sunday night saw the couple reveal a stunning folly on their Chateau grounds that was hidden by ivy.

The glorious building was many decades old and totally covered by ivy, but that didn’t stop Dick and Angel from wanting to give it a new lease of life.

The episode followed the duo as they created a magical mezzanine for the family to enjoy – and it involved Dick having to tackle huge rows of bamboo in a bid to tame the area.

Fans were thrilled to find a new and previously unseen part of the Chateau grounds and flocked to Twitter to comment on the building during the episode.

One fan wrote: “This year’s present: A folly wrapped in ivy!”

A second said: “Amazing. 8 years in and still finding these hidden gems”

A third commented: “Ooo a hidden folly. Exciting.”

A fourth claimed: “if that folly had been in the UK you would be spending many thousands before you could even touch the thing. Listed building application, bat survey and the rest !!”

In the end, Dick was able to fit a secret door inside the wall of the folly, leading Angel to compare their new favourite room to the iconic Narnia wardrobe.

Upstairs, the new mezzanine looked cosy as ever with lush new wooden flooring, spruced up walls and plenty of comfy furniture and a row of fairy lights.
