A Place In The Sun star Jonnie Irwin hasn’t told his children he’s terminally ill

A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin has yet to tell his three young sons he is terminally ill.

Jonnie is dad to Rex, three, and two-year-old twin boys Rafa and Cormac and while they have noticed he is losing his hair – they’re unaware of his heartbreaking condition.

He found out he had cancer back in 2020 after his vision started blurring while driving and doctors predicted he had six months to live.

Jonnie, 48, said that his eldest Rex laughs at his hair loss, calling him “spiky head”.

He continued: “He doesn’t need to know yet. As far as he’s concerned, his dad is normal and why would I shatter that innocence?”

Jonnie said he wants to spend what time he has left with his family and is teaching Rex how to ride his bike.

But he tires more easily than before and added: “It kills me when I have to sit down and watch someone else take over because I’m tired. But I’m there.”

Jonnie bravely opened up to Hello! magazine about living with the condition and he described the devastating moment he had to tell his wife Jessica, 40, she was looking after their babies “on her own pretty much”.

“All I could do was apologise to her. I felt so responsible.”

He said he wants to “capture the moments” with his family while he can.

Jonnie has been married to Jessica since 2016 and also urged others with “life-limited prospects” to make the most of every day and try and live a positive life.

He continued: “One day, this is going to catch up with me.

“But I’m doing everything I can to hold that day off for as long as possible. I owe that to Jess and our boys.

“Some people in my position have bucket lists, but I just want us to do as much as we can as a family.”

Jonnie’s A Place In The Sun career began in 2004 when he was selected from hundreds of applicants along with co-presenter Jasmine Harman.
