Strictly Come Dancing fans were quick to slam the “cringe” montage that played at the start of this weekend’s Blackpool Special (Saturday, November 19).
For the first time in three years – due to the coronavirus pandemic – the beloved BBC One dancing programme made a massive return to Blackpool.
But fans at home didn’t seem impressed by the emotional and moving montage to mark the occasion.

At the start of the show as the montage played, the voiceover said: “It’s been three very long years, the town had fallen silent.”
Someone else on the voiceover said: “Things just haven’t been the same without it.”
“This is weird pretending Blackpool fell silent just because #Strictly wasn’t there for one night in a year…” one person penned as the montage played.
“Oh god the cringe ‘it’s been 3 years since Blackpool’ montage #strictly,” fumed another viewer as they took to the social media platform.
While a third said: “Sick of hearing about Blackpool already #strictly.”
And a fourth critiqued: “Unpopular opinion, but I hate Blackpool week. I know they have extra dancers to fill the floor out, but I find them distracting.”
But some were overjoyed that the glitzy and glamorous week was making a spectacular comeback.
“I’ve kinda missed the Blackpool weeks so this is nice,” gushed one.
While another said: “What a way to start the show in Blackpool absolutely stunning! Even made my mam cry.”
And a third penned: “Ridiculously good to see the @Strictly crew back at #Blackpool This show is pure joy. #Strictly.”
This came as the celebrities and their professional dance partners danced away on the dancefloor of the Tower Ballroom in the beloved seaside town.
