Sally Nugent cuts off interview as BBC fans fume star given 'dodgy mic on purpose'

BBC Breakfast fans were left fuming after an interview was cut short following problems with a microphone.

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay fronted Wednesday’s (December 21) instalment of the morning programme and presented viewers with the top stories of the day.

The top headline was the current ambulance strikes as thousands of workers in England and Wales join nurses in striking over pay.

The presenters welcomed several guests to chat about the strikes, including Secretary of State Steve Barclay and Sharon Graham, General Secretary of Unite the Union.

The British trade unionist opened her interview by slamming the politician, saying: “Every time the Health Secretary speaks, I’ve got my head in my hands because I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about.”

She added: “He needs to get to the table, do the negotiation so these people get their pay rise and they can go back to work.”

But not long into the interview, a technical issue ensued and the sound became muffled to the point where no one could be heard.

While it appeared Sharon was still speaking, the camera cut back to the studio where Sally and Jon confirmed they could no longer continue because of the sound.

Speaking to the camera, Sally explained: “Really unfortunately, because that was such an important interview, we’ve got a problem with that microphone. So apologies there for the technical problems.”

But viewers at home weren’t having any of it and took to social media to theorize the technical issues were done on purpose to stop the 54-year-old from calling out Steve Barclay.

One viewer penned: “#BBCBreakfast What a surprise the union lady gets a dodgy mic. We all hold our head in our hands when Barclay speaks.”

Another echoed: “A Union leader calling out Barclay and Sunak and all of a sudden there’s a problem with the mic. They must have a backup mic but this is Tory run BBC and forthright criticism of the govt is not allowed or quickly shut down for ‘technical reasons’.”

While a third added: “Unexpectedly technical problems just as Sharon Graham from unite is speaking.. #bbcbreakfast.”
