Scarlett Johansson's orgasm scene left Joaquin Phoenix so upset that he fled set

Scarlett Johansson has confessed she left her co-star Joaquin Phoenix so uncomfortable while recording fake orgasm noises that he had to leave the studio.

While filming Her in 2014, Scarlett played artificial intelligence Samantha, while Joaquin portrayed lonely writer Theodore who falls in love with his operating system.

But while filming her own audio parts in a recording studio, it all proved too much for Phoenix, who had already filmed his parts on set.

Scarlett opened up in a new interview for Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast, explaining: “I remember we came in that day. I’ve become that actor that’s like ‘let’s get dirty.’ I have to because otherwise, I’ll be petrified.

Scarlett Johansson left her co-star so ‘upset’ with her fake orgasm noises he fled the room

“We tried to get through one take, and he was, like, losing it.

“He was, like, angry. He had already [filmed the scene] in person, and now he was with me in this weird theatre and I’m in this box, and he was like, staring at me, and the lights are low, and [director Spike Jonze] is there… it was so bizarre.”

Scarlett said while she was “fine” during the take, her co-star “was not”.

“He was so upset about it,” she said. “He left the studio, and now I’m in this box by myself, and I’m like, ‘I can’t do it alone. I need him to come back’. He needed a break; he took a break, and he came back in.”

The star said of her own embarrassment while filming the noises: “You don’t want to hear your voice ever. You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having a fake orgasm.

“Ew. It’s so gross,” she giggled.

Scarlett has revealed the secret to filming ‘realistic’ sex scenes in the past, explaining to Us Weekly in 2014: “You have to be totally without judgement.

“It’s sort of liberating. It’s challenging, but you’ve just got to stay in the moment.”

But it hasn’t always been easy for the Hollywood icon to accept her sex symbol status.

She said: “[I have] an okay body. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly remarkable, though. I don’t like my thighs, my midsection.

“I never put on a sexy face, so I don’t know what it means to act seductively.”

Last year, Scarlett was forced to shut down a rumour that she had sex in a lift with Benicio del Toro.

The rumour originated from a 2005 interview del Toro gave, telling Esquire: “Let’s leave that to somebody’s imagination. Let’s not promote it. I’m sure it has happened before. It might not be the last time either.”

Scarlett hit out on TheSkimm’s 9 to 5ish podcast: “I always thought that was outrageous. I was always thinking to myself, ‘That would be tough. It’s a very short period, the logistics of that seem so unappealing to me.’

“I’m a person who’s terrified of being caught doing something I’m not supposed to be doing. So that made the story even that much more absurd to me.”
