I’m A Celeb’s Amir Khan confesses he ‘didn’t recognise’ most of his campmates

Amir Khan has admitted he didn’t recognise most of his I’m A Celeb campmates.

Bosses went all out to bring back the show’s biggest names for the series, but he had no idea who the stars, including Olympian Fatima Whitbread, 62, and Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, 60, were.

In his first interview since being voted off, former boxing champion Amir, 36, said: “To be honest, I didn’t really know anyone in the camp when I entered.

“I’m really bad. The only people I knew in there were Toff and Carol Vorderman.

“I’m also really bad with names, I always get names wrong – but people made that a bit of a joke and had a laugh about it.”

Amir Khan didn’t know who half the contestants even where on I’m Celeb…South Africa, he said

Amir was dumped by his fellow campmates on Tuesday (May 2) in the most brutal elimination in the show’s history.

But he admitted: “It’s best to leave on a good note than do something silly, which I think was coming. I’m just that kind of guy.”

The contestants were seen in turmoil after being forced to make a “horrible” decision on tonight’s episode of the All-Star version of the ITV series.

This is the first time this has happened in the show’s history, with the fate of the contestants usually down to the viewers’ votes.

As the news of Amir’s exit swept through camp, socialite Georgia Toffolo, 28, was particularly upset as she hugged her pal.

Holding the boxer tight, she whispered: “This isn’t right,” as he was sent packing.

But Amir remained philosophical and said: “This is not a holiday – it’s a competition and there has to be one winner,” with Jordan Banjo, 30, concurring: “At the end of the day, there’s only going to be one winner.”

Amir’s first stint in the jungle was in 2017 – the year Toff actually won – and he previously told his campmates that despite it being “the best experience ever”, he still had one regret.

He admitted he wished he had reacted to the harrowing Bushtucker trials differently.

Amir said: “I let myself down by saying ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ in one of the Trials in Australia.

“I got scared last time and I want to go in again and come out as the main man – the champion. I am in this to win it.”
