Happy Mondays’ Bez is now a boat-owning fisherman who can’t watch himself on TV

Happy Mondays wild man Bez is now a fisherman who catches mackerel and lobster for his mate’s restaurant.

The maraca-shaking 90s celebrity has bought a boat in Cornwall.

But he admits his kids diving off the vessel can cause havoc for his fishing trips.

Bez – real name Mark Berry – revealed: “I keep a fishing boat in Porthleven and I try to fish, but it’s really hard when you’ve got kids using your boat as a diving board.

“We’ve caught mackerel and lobster, which my friend Kelvin cooks up at his restaurant, the Mussel Shoal.”

Bez, 59, has now reinvented himself as a reality TV star but never watches himself because he “sounds thick.”

The former dancer is now also a bee-keeper who appears on Celebrity Gogglebox with Monday’s frontman Shaun Ryder.

But he never tunes into the shows that help make him a living.

He said: “I’ve never watched it. I hate myself on television. I think I sound so thick, it’s unbelievable.”

He said the reason he won Celebrity Big Brother in 2005 was that he’d never watched it.

Bez added: “I had no preconceptions of how I should behave or how I should play the game. I was just my usual self – I try to be well mannered and polite and nice to people.

“A lot of my win was down to the support I got out there as a Happy Monday. I don’t think people realise what a huge support base we have.”

And the married reformed hell-raiser says he never makes plans, adding: “I still don’t have any security because of the way I live my life.

“I’m balancing on a blade’s edge, but it doesn’t worry me.

“So, I just leave it to the universe. I can’t say I’d recommend it for everyone, but I’ve been really lucky. When I wake up every morning I say to my missus, ‘I can’t believe how f***ing lucky I’ve been’.

“People who knew me at 16 didn’t think I’d get to 30, never mind 58. It’s always a huge shock to people that I’m still alive.”
