The Chase’s Bradley Walsh left baffled by contestant after unveiling hobby

On tonight’s episode of The Chase, host Bradley Walsh had to deal with a moment of complete bewilderment as he struggled to get his head around a contestant’s hobby.

Foreshadowing what was to come, the presenter welcomed the viewers back after the break, saying: “This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for; Susan is up to face the Chaser.”

And with a beaming grin across her face, the 56-year-old pupil recruiter from Hertfordshire stepped onto the stage with a point to prove.

She started discussing her life, telling Bradley, “I love to sing, and I love to dance.”

Ever the visionary, the host attempted to sign her up for contestant Aaron’s event company. The man, who took the low offer, replied to the idea with jazz hands.

But while everything had been smooth sailing, that was about to change as Susan left Bradley perplexed.

When discussing her passion outside of work, she said: “I’m really into wellbeing.”

Not quite believing his ears, Bradley gasped: “Welding?”

As the audience erupted in laughter, Susan chuckled: “I’m not into welding, Brad; I’m into wellbeing. I think singing is a great way to relax; I want to go on holiday with my husband.”

Either wishing he could come or just being genuinely inquisitive, Bradley suggested: “Like a spa week?”

Susan replied: “Yeah, maybe some Pilates, a bit of dancing.”

Showing more interest, the former Doctor Who star said: “What’s your husband’s name?”

To which the quizzer answered: “Peter.”

And with that, Bradley cheered the couple on, saying: “Let’s get you and Peter sorted out.”

With great knowledge of The Gospel and no idea about Sudoku, Susan bagged a respectable £5000, which she put on the line against Paul ‘The Sinhaman’.

Showing a degree of respect for his opponent, the legendary competitor asserted: “The smiling assassin. What a lovely, engaging performance that was. Lots of excellent answers and at speed, too and a mystifyingly bad answer on sudoku. I’d like to see your Sudoku puzzles at the end if you think they’re a word puzzle.”

Upon looking at his offers, Susan resist Aaron’s pleas for her to take the low offer, and she opted for the £5000.

Putting on her glasses, she knew it was time to get serious.

And initially, everything looked to be going well, but as The Chase rolled on, the quizzing powerhouse piled on the pressure, forcing a one-question shootout.

She was asked: ‘What name is given to a wheel with teeth that engage with the links of a chain’?

And in a moment that Bradley described as an “Unmitigated disaster,” Susan accidentally clicked ‘grommet’ rather than ‘sprocket’,’ sending her home without a penny in her pocket.

But despite being heartbroken, she left the show with her head held high, knowing she’d contributed to an epic moment of television.
