‘I tried Brooklyn Beckham’s grilled cheese recipe and it was a total shambles’

Brooklyn Beckham has been making a name for himself in the culinary world and here at Daily Star, we decided to see what all the fuss is about.

The star has been ruthlessly ridiculed for his “out of touch” recipes that often include pricey, hard to come by ingredients such as sea urchins, truffles and duck.

Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t quite stretch that far (not that I’d even know where to source these Michelin level items from) so I opted for a childhood classic – Brooklyn’s spin on the humble grilled cheese.

How bad could it be?…she says.

Keep reading to check out how things went down when I tried the Beckham brother’s glorified cheese toastie.

I followed Brooklyn’s Instagram Reel “recipe”, which instructed me to slice up some white onions, add some mushrooms and sauté the mixture.

Next, Brooklyn questionably smothered his white bread in mayonnaise before he assembled the sandwich with cheese and fried the sides in a frying pan.

Things were looking promising…

Before Brooklyn took a bite of his toastie the star suddenly whacked a butane torch out of nowhere and cremated the cheesy creation, only further supporting the “out of touch” comments he’s recently been branded with.

After following each step I was finally faced with a pale, soggy looking sandwich that didn’t exactly scream appetising.

Now, I’m no chef but for me, this “recipe” is seriously lacking.

The end product was extremely underwhelming and surprisingly pale

The mayonnaise didn’t allow the bread to crisp up enough to get that classic toastie crunch – instead, the bread-mayo-cheese mixture turned into a claggy mess that left my mouth feeling like a cave of flavourless playdough.

I gave the “recipe” another go, this time with butter instead of mayonnaise and, well…see for yourself.

The crispy golden chomp was music to my ears but sadly I could only stomach a few bites after chowing down Brooklyn’s original flavourless fiasco.

Just look at that golden goodness!

Although nothing beats a classic, simple cheese toastie (extra points if you dug out the Breville machine from the depths of your kitchen cupboard) I would make a few changes to add some interest to Brooklyn’s lacklustre attempt.

I’d switch to red onions for some bite, seeded bread for some added texture and a drizzle of hot sauce for a little kick.

Overall, I was totally unimpressed with Brooklyn’s “recipe” and it appeared his fans felt the same way.

Fury raged through the comment section of his Instagram upload as followers slammed the star for his take on a cheese toastie.

One wrote: “Replace the mayo [vomit emoji] with butter!”

Another added: “Am I the only person who thinks WTF?”

Others asked whether Brooklyn “was for real” and called him out for “unnecessarily blowtorching pieces of toast”.

One even begged someone to “tell them the video was satire” – bit harsh.
