Stars’ final interviews – predicting own deaths to haunting afterlife confessions

It’s easy to forget that celebrities aren’t our friends when one passes away – especially for those whose deaths are unexpected.

And for that reason, hunting down their final television appearances feels like the natural thing to do, so we get a sense of what they were feeling so close to the end.

Some stars even seem to suspect their own deaths are nearing, with Tina Turner predicting she would die before she finally passed in a chilling discussion about the afterlife.

For others, like Jerry Springer, it was letting fans in on one final secret before he died.

Daily Star takes a look back at those final public moments – from chilling confessions to sweet clips that had fans in tears.

Predicting own death

When Tina Turner passed away in May 2023, she left the world shaken. Her final interview came in April, and some of the things she said sparked a chilling conclusion with fans after the fact.

She was diagnosed in 1978 with hypertension, and battled intestinal cancer – at the time of her death, she was still struggling with chronic kidney failure after her husband donated one of his organs to the star.

Tina admitted on World Kidney Day: “My kidneys are victims of me denying the fact that my hypertension needed therapy with conventional medicine.

“I put myself at great danger by refusing to accept the reality that I required daily medication for the rest of my life. I considered my body an invulnerable and indestructible bastion for way too long.”

In her last interview, Tina was asked: “What happens when we die?”

Her answer was: “As a Buddhist, death means the end of this life, but then the beginning of the next one, which is where my consciousness will go to. I am curious at what awaits us.”

Secret exposed

Talk show host Jerry Springer passed away peacefully at home aged 79 earlier this year.

And his final appearance on screen wasn’t a traditional one – it was actually as he competed on The Masked Singer, showing off his very secret talent.

The star dressed as a beetle on the programme, joking as he was unmasked: “When I sing, people get involved because they have to guess where the notes were supposed to have been. It’s like, interactive.”

The star was already semi-retired at the time, and said that singing in a costume was no easy feat.

He told TV Insider: “Seeing was the most difficult part”.

“You sweat unbelievably, so there’s sweat going into your eyes… The eyes in the head didn’t remain where my eyes are, and so I couldn’t see and I don’t know where I’m walking.”

Tragic story

For Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding, who passed away aged just 39 after a cancer battle, it was an appearance on Loose Women that marked her last ever on-screen interview.

Back in 2017, the star chatted about winning Celebrity Big Brother with the panel – and admitted a tragic truth.

Sarah revealed that she only really kept in contact with her bandmate Nadine Coyle, but ended up mainly losing touch with the others.

She said: “A lot of them are all sort of busy with their families and getting married and all that palaver, so it’s quite hard, especially when we’re all busy. But we cross paths obviously, places like this [TV studios].”

Sarah’s cancer diagnosis did change things, however, and put their differences aside for a secret reunion in 2021.

Cheryl confessed at the time: “It was a lovely trip away for us all, and Sarah was at her best.”

Chilling premonition

For Dancing With The Stars judge and Strictly Come Dancing legend Len Goodman, who died aged 78 in 2023, Len predicted his own death during his final interview.

In December 2022, he told the Daily Mail that he would be dead “next year” – and was sadly correct.

“My dad had the right idea,” he said. “He loved gardening and he had a stroke while he was out in the garden.

“He was 79 so if I go the way of my dad, that’ll be next year.”

But the star reflected: “[Life is] more about the journey, and mine has been lovely.”

Sweet moments

The world was left reeling when Paul O’Grady passed away earlier this year.

And when the final episode of his show For The Love of Dogs aired on ITV, viewers couldn’t hold back their tears.

On the programme, Paul could be seen caring for an adorable Newfoundland pooch named Peggy, who needed life-changing surgery on her back legs.

Paul was left in tears having to say goodbye to her after her recovery, as he didn’t have enough room to adopt another dog.

One fan penned on social media at the time: “We are so lucky to have a constant reminder of Mr Paul O’Grady through his television shows.”

As someone else agreed: “Emotional for many reasons.”

In the video, Kirstie said: “A bunch of you have been asking [me] to do these greetings, and I always do what you ask me to.

“If you want something funny or something sincere… ‘Hi, I love you,’ or ‘Merry Christmas,’ or ‘I want a divorce’… Whatever you need, I’ll do it.”

She wore her sleek blonde hair loose around her shoulders and slipped into a black silk shirt for the video as she relaxed at home, showing off her magenta manicure and ageless appearance.
