Coronation Street character to be recast after 11 years on ITV soap as star quits showbiz

Coronation Street has reportedly recast a major character after 11 years ahead of an explosive storyline.

Daughter of Tyrone and his abusive ex Kirsty Soames, Ruby Dobbs has been played by actress Macy Alabi since 2012 – when the character was born.

However, in a huge shake-up, she will now be replaced by newcomer Billie Naylor with her first scenes set to sit next week.

A source told The Sun: “Macy’s starting senior school soon so wants to focus on her studies.”

Billie will make her Corrie debut next week as Ruby goes up against her sister Hope for a role in the play at school.

The step-sisters will both compete for the lead role in Glenda Shuttleworth’s Little Big Shotz performance.

After rehearsals, Glenda reveals it is Ruby who has landed the role, and her older sister is not too impressed.

Ruby is the daughter of Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and police officer Kirsty (Natalie Gumede) had been abusive towards Tyrone.

In 2012, the character fell pregnant and gave birth to baby girl Ruby, before Tyrone proposed to her to try and get custody of his daughter.

Kitty even tried to frame Tyrone for the attacks, telling others he was instead responsible for the abuse he had claimed.

However, the baddie was later jailed for her crime – before eventually getting killed off-screen in 2021 from an aneurysm.

Meanwhile, Fiz Stape recently said a sad farewell to the soap as her character headed off to Norwich for a change of career.

In reality though, the storyline will mark a brief exit for actress Jennie McAlpine who revealed earlier this year that she was expecting her third child.

In the emotional scenes, Fiz packed up her bags and said goodbye to her girls before heading off to Norwich.

Pals Izzy Armstrong and Kirk were seen lending their support and Tyrone’s grandmother Evelyn Plummer and her girls Hope and Ruby waved her off off.
