‘Funniest ever’ TV guest Guy Goma suing BBC as he wants money for viral clip

It’s one of the most hilarious interviews in television history.

Former job applicant Guy Goma became an internet hero in 2006 after being wrongly interviewed on-air by the BBC who had mistaken him for a tech expert.

But now he’s revealed he plans to sue the broadcaster as he wants a share of the royalties from his viral video clip, which has been viewed 5.2million times on YouTube.

The computer technician insists he’s received no money for his notorious interview on BBC News 24 and reckons he deserves payment for it 17 years after the event.

Speaking to hosts Josh Pieters and Archie Manners on their podcast Accidental Celebrities, Goma claimed he’d reached out to the BBC but they hadn’t responded to him.

Asked if he was going to take them to court over the issue, he confirmed: “I am going to go because of the money they made from it.

“They didn’t give me a single penny.”

The hosts threw their support behind the internet hero and said it seemed “incredibly unfair” that he hadn’t received a slice of the royalties.

Goma added: “They have been using it for nearly 20 years with no penny to me. When I see that they are paying people millions here and there, that clip made them richer.”

The notorious blunder happened when Goma went for a job interview as a data support cleaner in the BBC’s IT department.

The Congolese-French business studies graduate was waiting in the reception of the BBC’s Television Centre in West London as tech expert Guy Kewney was in another reception area preparing for his TV interview.

It was Kewney who was supposed to go on-air and chat about a court battle between two Apple companies, but the BBC got the wrong bloke and it was Goma who was whisked into a studio.

He was subsequently given make-up and fitted with a microphone before being placed on camera.

And he became everybody’s favourite interviewee when, despite not being the right person for the interview, did his best to answer the questions put to him by reporter Karen Bowerman.

Daily Star has contacted the BBC for comment.
