Margot Robbie’s career in Hollywood could’ve gone in a completely different direction if she hadn’t been snubbed by a huge US television series.
Despite being the current It-Girl of the industry thanks to Barbie’s stratospheric success, she was once a fledgling actress who had to fight for her roles.
And it has been revealed that she once auditioned for a role in American Horror Story: Asylum, but ended up being looked over by bosses.

The show’s casting director Eric Dawson said that Margot was rejected despite providing them with an incredible audition.
He said: “Margot has a lot of ‘it’ factors. That’s the tough thing for casting directors who aren’t in the room with actors. Margot is probably one of my favourite auditions of all time, and it was right before she broke out. She was such a star.”
Eric went on to Backstage : “It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room. EVen though she didn’t get that role, that was one of those things as a casting director where you go: This is a star, what do we do with her?”
However it appears that it was because of Margot’s talent and star power that she was rejected.
Eric added: “Immediately, though, she was out of our realm of possibility of hiring. But that’s really the fun part of casting, is seeing the people who careers are just rising.”
It wasn’t revealed which role Margot had auditioned for, but there are many incredible characters in the second season of American Horror Story.
Some fans have speculated that it may have been the character of Grace Bertrand, who was played by Lizzie Brocheré.
Grace befriends Kit Connor in Briarcliff and they try and come up with an escape plan, though things don’t go well.
She is eventually killed when jumping in front of a bullet aimed at Kit, played by Evan Peters, though she later returns as a hallucination.
American Horror Story fans have shared their disappointment over the casting that never was.
One said online: “We were robbed of seeing Margot Robbie and Evan Peters on screen together. Asylum was perfect but can you imagine how she’d eat that.”
Another said the news had “p***ed them off and made them happy”, saying that not getting the role proved good for Margot’s career.
