Davina McCall apologises to ITV over Love Island link as new show cuts ties

ITV bosses aren’t keen on their new show My Mum, Your Dad being linked to Love Island.

The show sees adult kids nominate their single parents to take part in the brand new series in a bid to find love again, with the parents sharing a house with each other and going out on dates – which their kids will pick.

But while it’s a dating show, the concept is still different to the famous reality show, with no cash prize up for grabs and the parents talking about tying the knot and their past heartbreak.

However, ITV are now desperately trying to cut ties with the Love Island link after host Davina McCall’s blunder.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Davina issued an apology to the team at ITV after she connected the two shows on a podcast.

She explained that she landed the job after pitching the idea to ITV bosses for a middle aged Love Island, but they came back and explained they had a slightly different concept they were considering.

However they told Davina that they’d keep her updated regarding the show and its hosting duties, though when Davina had talked about it prior, she had said she wanted to host a middle aged Love Island.

At the panel, Davina said: “It’s my fault it got called mid life Love Island because that’s what I called it in the email to ITV, so I’m sorry about that.

“We’ve been trying to burn that name every since and I’ve ruined it – and I’m sorry I’ve just said it again.”

Davina explained that one huge difference about this show is that all the past is out in the open with those looking for romance opening up about their “baggage.

The show, which airs on Monday, September 4 at 9pm, will air weeknights for a three week period as singletons get to know each other.

There are twists and turns along the way, with the kids ultimately having the deciding vote about what their parents get up to.
