Strictly Come Dancing winner will be ‘unexpected’ as contestants ‘step up’

Strictly Come Dancing fans will get a “huge shock” over who takes home the Glitterball Trophy this year, Shirley Ballas thinks.

The head Judge weighed in on her thoughts about the current Strictly contestants, and it seems she’s impressed with them all. Speaking to Daily Star at the Pride of Britain Awards, Shirley shared her prediction for the final.

Shirley said: “First of all, the cast is amazing. Even the people who are non-dancers, they’ve come out and have really stepped up.

“I think it’s going to be a real shock. I don’t think who you think will win is going to win, but that’s just my prediction.”

The professional added: “Everybody has a fair shot at this, I love them all. Every single one of them is great. I love the ones that can dance and I love the ones that can’t dance.”

The TV favourite also declared she’s hoping that this year people truly get behind the show and vote for their favourites. She added: “People don’t understand how hard they all work.”

Shirley addressed the fact that some of the contestants already have a history of dancing, though she doesn’t necessarily think it gives them an edge. Some contestants have faced backlash over their dancing past already, with Layton Williams at the centre.

While Layton’s trained in jazz, tap and ballet, he has declared that he’s “not a ballet dancer”. With an incredible West End career behind him, he has been in a fair few performances, but he’s still learning from Nikita Kuzmin each week.

He has been winning over the judges, managing to score a round of nines in week two and got a whopping 36 points in total. However, the following week he was awarded a total of 28 – still a good score for week three, but nothing on his previous success.

It’s already a tough competition this year but people have been getting behind their favourite dancers – but sadly viewers have already seen two people head home. Les Dennis was the first to go packing while Nikita Kanda headed home soon after.

A lot of the dancers haven’t been consistent with the scores they’ve been taking home – so it’s anyone’s game. But who will head all the way to the glitzy final?

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday night on BBC.
