Matthew Perry’s loved ones have launched a foundation to help people struggling with addiction, much like the Friends star experienced.
The actor, who sadly died on October 28, was particularly vocal about his battle and his family are keen to carry on his legacy. It has been reported that the Chandler Bing actor was actually planning to create a similar organisation himself just months before his death.
Nearly a week after the news broke, Matthew’s family have created The Matthew Perry Foundation and launched a new website, which has a number of quotes from the actor.

One reads: “When I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned – I want helping others to be the first thing that’s mentioned.”
“And I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that. Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone, but together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.” Toward the bottom of the website is a mission statement and a link to donate money toward the cause.
It reads: “The Matthew Perry Foundation is the realisation of Matthew’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction. It will honour his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible. Please join us.”
Perry’s sudden and unexpected death shocked the world when the news broke of his passing. The actor was found by his assistant in his hot tub and just two hours prior, Matthew had been playing Pickleball.
It was reported that Perry sent his assistant on an errand upon his return home. When the assistant arrived back at Matthew’s property, they found him under the water and attempted to give him air, but sadly when the paramedics arrived on the scene, he was pronounced dead.
In a heartbreaking statement, his friend Athenna Crosby said that he was in “extremely good spirits” and was “talking enthusiastically about things he had coming up in his life” when they met just 24 hours before his death.
