Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Danielle confessed one challenge she didn’t think she would have to overcome was going to the bathroom in front of her co-stars on the show. She confessed: “We couldn’t go to the toilet for about five days!
“We’d had conversations at the beginning because the toilets were all open so when you go to the bathroom, everyone can see.” She confessed that after seeing the conditions of the camp, she was “potty” shy for days.
The former Miss England went on: “It was like having potty fear, nobody wanted to go for a poo first and then by the fifth day I was like, ‘Something’s got to give, I need to go to the toilet’. But then honestly once it happened, it was like nobody gives a s**t by that time.
“We were talking while we were on the toilet saying. ‘Pass me the toilet roll’ or screaming ‘I need the toilet roll’ and throwing it down between us.”
Her co-star and Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton went on to emphasise the stench of the camp toilets to viewers. She fumed: “By the way – they absolutely stunk so bad, like poo.
“And if there were scents that could come through the TV screens, you’d know we all smelled too, Jesus!”
Danielle went on to explain how the hardest part of the show was overcoming her mental barriers during the intense interrogations. On the show, each contestant is pulled for a surprise interrogation by throwing a bag over their faces and dragged to a secret part of the camp.
There, the celebrities are forced to face their past with a series of gruelling questions. Throughout her time on the show, the TV personality got candid about her violent relationship with an ex-boyfriend.
Opening up about her struggles, she explained: “From the moment that bag went over my head – and it happened very early on – it just felt awful. I’ve been in a violent relationship and in those situations you lose all control of your own life.
“Not being able to see where I was going or who I was with took me back to that point because I didn’t feel like I was in control.” It was at this point that the star confessed that she felt the affects of a panic attack during that stressful situation.
She went on: “I didn’t like it and I started to hyperventilate, and I couldn’t breathe properly. I just felt sick and anxious.
