Coronation Street newcomerLuca Toolan has admitted he felt guilty watching scenes where his character pulled a knife on someone.
The actor – whose dad is well-known DJ Mike Toolan – joined the soap as bully Mason Radcliffe in October and has already made a name for himself on the cobbles with his bullying behaviour. Recent scenes saw the situation escalate, with Mason threatening Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall).
Mason and his friends targeted Liam, taunting him and pushing him over as they chucked rubbish on him. When he tried to fight back, Mason stunned everyone by whipping out a knife. “Do that again!” he threatened, while holding the weapon in front of him.

After the episode aired, Luca took to Instagram to say how brilliant his co-star Charlie had been in the tense scene. And he revealed that although they were just acting the scene, it had an impact.
He said: “@charliewrenshallofficial amazing tonight that last scene was powerfuI felt so guilty even though I know it’s not real.” Luca, 19, also shared a snap of him and some of his co-stars on Instagram. “Heavy ep tonight, but an important one – so lucky to have shared it with these lads and PA @karenlouise1306,” he wrote. The actor’s dad Mike also shared the images, posting them on X and joking that if Luka had behaved like his alter ego he would “box” his ears.
“They’re great friends really!” he said, praising the soap for the “amazing storyline”. “Powerful & heartbreaking scenes,” he said. “And an important topic – Bullies never win. If I didn’t know, he was an amazing lad in real life I would box @LucaToolan ears. Great acting all round.” The storyline has moved viewers, with many praising Corrie for doing its bit to raise awareness of bullying. “Great acting for the young actors on such a relevant scary and emotional topic,” one person wrote on Instagram.
