Emmerdale fans are convinced Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) will have an affair with Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell).
The pair have grown closer after he opened up to the village GP about his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Eric was diagnosed with the neurological condition in scenes which aired last month, and pushed his loved ones away as he tried to keep his condition a secret from friends and family out of pride.
Earlier this week, Pollard was unable to face the Parkinson’s Support Group meeting and was taken by surprise when he experienced an unexpected tremor. During Wednesday’s (December 13) episode, Manpreet encouraged Pollard to open up to his friend, Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) about his diagnosis.

Manpreet enjoyed a round of golf with Eric and finished off by visiting the café and fans are now convinced the pair will “get together” after watching the pair spend time together. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “I reckon Eric and Manpreet will get it together!” Another added: “Wouldn’t surprise me if Manpreet and Eric had an affair.”
A third person wrote: “So Manpreet and Eric having the New Year affair then.” Someone else agreed: “I actually think Eric and Manpreet would make a sweet couple.” A fifth social media user typed: “Random, Manpreet and Eric off to play golf together.” Towards the latest episode of the ITV soap, Pollard’s perplexed by Rodney’s off-hand reaction to his shattering diagnosis.
In emotional scenes which aired in November, Eric tearfully confided in Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) about what he had been going through recently, and how terrified he was feeling as he looked to his future. He swore Mandy to secrecy, determined to go it alone. Speaking about the storyline, Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, commented: “When Eric Pollard is diagnosed with Parkinsons he’s naturally very scared and unsure of what the condition means for his future.
“The unique position of a show like Emmerdale means we can tell this story really authentically over a long period of time and we can really shine a light on what a diagnosis like this means and follow Pollard on his journey of learning to live with it. Working closely with Parkinson’s UK, who have been guiding us through every step of the way, we hope seeing Pollard’s story helps to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and show the day to day reality of those living with it, as well as the impact it can have on friends, family and the local community.”
Actor Chris Chittell said: “I feel really privileged to be given this storyline. Parkinson’s is indiscriminate, deceptive and wickedly unkind targeting so many. I want to do this storyline justice for the most courageous of people who are having to bear the brunt of this condition.”
Emmerdalr airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
