Friends icon Matthew Perry’s death ruled accident from ‘acute effects of ketamine’

Matthew Perry’s death has been ruled an accident from the “acute effects of ketamine”, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner has confirmed.

The beloved actor, who played Chandler Bing in hit sitcom Friends, died on October 28 and was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. The medical examiner’s report on Friday (December 15) added: “Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder).”

Emergency services were called to a suspected drowning, after his assistant found Perry with his head underwater. No narcotics were found at the scene, and his autopsy was inititally “deferred” pending further investigation.

During a sweep for narcotics at his home, none were found – authorities only discovered anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs and a drug for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

On the day of his death, Matthew played pickleball with a female friend who described him as “fatigued”. He later returned to his home, sent an assistant out on an errand, and was found dead in his outdoor jacuzzi at 4pm, two hours later.

His staffer made a 911 call as Matthew supposedly suffered a cardiac arrest, with the 15-second clip referring to a potential drowning. The actor openly admitted struggles with alcohol and drug dependency, but became sober and discussed this in his book released last year Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.
