Coronation Street newcomer Jack Carroll has revealed “blockbuster” scenes with Carla Barlow will air in the new year after she bid farewell to Peter on Boxing Day (December 26).
The actor and comedian first rose to fame when he was just 14 on the seventh series of ITV show back in 2014. His stand-up comedy routine was an immediate hit with the judges and viewers and he went on to soared to the finals before he was pipped to the post by the pop group Collabro.
The former Britain’s Got Talent star moved to the cobbles on Boxing Day where he portrays Bobby Donovan, the son of Carla’s brother Rob Donovan. In an interview with Daily Star and other press, the 25-year-old has teased an exciting storyline on the horizon.

He teased: “It’s very, very exciting – I’d even go so far as to say blockbuster. There’s always a little bit of apprehension because I’ve only been here a couple of weeks and then I found out that I was going to be part of this massive storyline.
“But I think after that dissipates a little then you’re just very excited to get stuck in. I just can’t wait to get working and expand on the character and see what craziness they put me in, I’m very excited.”
Speaking about his arrival on the show, Alison King – who plays Carla Barlow on the cobbles – confessed that Bobby is the key to her character getting over her separation from her husband Peter. She explained: “She is not looking for love, she’s still got her rings on, she’s not over Peter just like that.
“But what it does with Bobby coming into this scenario is snap her out of going into the doldrums and going all reflective. She is trying to be quite cut and dry about it, you know, I’ve done this, I’ve made this decision, I’ve made Peter make this decision along the way to leave.”
Emotional scenes on Boxing Day saw a tearful Peter say goodbye to Carla. It was her idea to let him go sailing around the world with his pal.
The actress went on to reveal how Bobby will bring some chaos to Weatherfield. She went on: “In the factory people are walking on eggshells around her and she doesn’t want that.
“It was going to be tough so Bobby arriving has kind of snapped her out of that because he’s so much trouble. Him coming in and creating havoc a little bit [distracts her], and her having to support him in lots of different ways stops any self-indulgence. So that’s been amazing.”
Jack went on to reveal that Bobby was created for him personally by a writer on the team. He explained: “A friend of mine is a writer on the show, and he came up with this pitch and we’ve been talking about it for a while.

“He was like, ‘I think I’ve got this idea for a character [based on you]’. I think that’s why myself and Bobby are quite similar because he’s heightened various aspects of what he knows about me and that’s been a real dream to play.
“It’s absolutely fab. It really is a dream come true to be part of such a cultural institution and I really am delighted.” Fans will have to stay tuned to see what sort of trouble the cheeky chap will get up to on the cobbles.
