David Soul has died aged 80, his wife Helen Snell has confirmed.
In a statement shared, she said: “David Soul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – died yesterday after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family.
“He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend.
“His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”

The American-British actor was perhaps best known for his role as Detective Kenneth ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson in the smash hit 70s TV show Starsky & Hutch. He also appeared in Here Come The Brides and Magnum Force.
He also had a successful music career, scoring number ones with Don’t Give Up On Us in 1976 and Silver Lady in 1977. Back in February 2023, it was reported that Soul wanted to return to his role as Hutch for an “old farts” reboot of the series.
Just days after it was announced that Fox was making an all-female remake of the iconic series, David spoke out about the idea. He took to Twitter and suggested that he and his co-star should return to play their characters.
He wrote: “Every article mentions the original actors by name, so why not just reboot Paul and me as a couple of old farts solving piddly-ass crimes at the assisted living facility where we would live now? Who can do Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?”
Soul’s tweet drew tens of thousands of likes and even original Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter supported the actor by replying: “I’d watch this.”
Variety critic Joe Leydon even urged the star “don’t give up” while comedian Dave Foley responded: “Sounds great. Can I play the upstart 60 yr old who thinks he knows it all but hasn’t seen s***. P.S. watched every episode of the original.”
Chicago-native Soul continued to work throughout the 80s, after Starsky and Hutch ended, later moving to England in the 1990s to perform on London’s West End.
