Rosamund Pike wears ‘protective veil’ at Golden Globes to hide ‘entirely smashed up’ face

Rosamund Pike has revealed a horror ski accident left her face “entirely smashed up” just days before she attended the Golden Globe Awards.

The Gone Girl star turned heads on Sunday as she took to the red carpet in a breathtaking black ensemble. The 44-year-old actress was hailed as one of the best-dressed stars at the prestigious awards evening, where she was nominated for her supporting role in Saltburn.

She stood out as she donned a black lacy headpiece for the event but the veil wasn’t simply a style statement as Rosamund revealed she’d chosen it after getting into an accident on the slopes on Boxing Day. Speaking to Variety’s Marc Malkin as she made her entrance on the red carpet, the star revealed: “It’s a protective veil for the occasion.”

She explained: “I had a [skiing] accident over Christmas.” The star added: “Not what you want knowing you’re coming to the Golden Globes on the 7th of January.”

Rosamund claimed her face was left “entirely smashed up” after her accident on December 26. With just a few days until her Golden Globes appearance, she revealed she suddenly thought: “I need to do something.”

While she said the veil was intended to hide her injuries, Marc noted he didn’t “see any bruising”. Rosamund revealed she’d made a quick recovery but still wished to wear the headpiece.

“Actually it’s healed but I kind of fell in love with the look,” she said. The actress paired the bold veil with a matching lacy black Dior couture gown featuring floral lace appliqué, a corset waist and fishnet sleeves.

She committed to the all-black look with a pair of open-toe black platform heels and a matching pedicure. Rosamund joked the sombre outfit was also inspired by her Saltburn character Lady Elspeth Catton.

“You have to channel it, don’t you? Either a sort of weird funeral vibe or maybe she wore black for her wedding,” she said. Rosamund was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for the role in Emerald Fennell’s hit film but lost out to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for her role in The Holdovers.
