Catching a liar on The Traitors isn’t as tough as it looks on telly.
Contestants often drive themselves crazy trying to work out who is fibbing on the hit reality show. But when your Daily Star played the game, we unmasked a Traitor within minutes.
We were invited to the set at its lavish castle in the Scottish Highlands. Just like on the show, it all starts at the famous round table. Host Claudia Winkleman appeared and ordered us to put on blindfold.

I’d already decided my tactic would be to have a sneaky peek under to see who was picked to be a Traitor. But the producers are one step ahead by making sure you can’t see a thing – it’s pitch dark under there.
All you can focus on is Claudia’s footsteps as she slowly walks around the room. It’s terrifying and thrilling all at the same time.
I was desperate to be picked to be a Traitor, but also worried that I would then give the game away. I needed to make sure I didn’t breathe too loudly or too quietly or do anything out of the ordinary.
I was also trying to work out if Claudia was slowing down near anyone as that might be a giveaway that she’d picked them as a Traitor. Once the selection was over, I knew it wasn’t me – I was a Faithful.
The mission to unmask a Traitor feels impossible. You try everything you can to use logic and evidence, but most of the time it is guesswork.
There are lots of places in the castle to have private chats with contestants but there are also lots of corners where someone could be listening in. It’s an environment that puts you on edge the entire time.
Even when you know you’re not a Traitor, you’re still worried you’re going to be accused of being one. And frankly, there’s no real way of convincing people that you’re not.
You can swear blind you’re a Faithful but of course that’s what a Traitor would say. It all comes down to the banishment back at the round table.
Once we all gathered back there, it was my chance to catch a Traitor. Claudia signalled it was time to start deliberating and the accusations began.
Within seconds a girl declared she was adamant I was a Traitor. She insisted she was sure.
I was thrown because I knew for a fact that I was a Faithful and it was frustrating to be wrongly accused. But I was also confused: How could she be so sure when she didn’t have any evidence? Logically, she couldn’t be.
And then I had a lightbulb moment… The only reason someone would be so sure straight away would be if they were a Traitor and wanted to deflect attention on to someone else.
This was evidence I could use in my bid to guess who the Traitor was. So I challenged her about how quick she’d been to accuse me and deflect attention.
My theory was so good that the other players were convinced. Moments later Claudia ordered us to vote.
It was nerve-wracking because I was hoping I wouldn’t get voted while also hoping my suspicions were right.
Claudia doesn’t break character at any point – she is a pro at keeping a poker face and not giggling. The majority of the group voted for the girl who accused me. And… we were right!
Against the odds, we’d managed to unmask a Traitor at the first opportunity. There’s no doubt that The Traitors is one of the toughest shows on the box.
Contestants are always bluffing, double-bluffing, turning on each other and lying through their teeth. But if you stay calm and look out for key facts, it isn’t too difficult to work out who’s lying.
The new series continues tonight (January 18) at 9pm on BBC One.
