Only Fools and Horses’ David Jason ‘talks to his trees’ and shares his addiction

Sir David Jason has revealed how he’s hooked on making JAM.

The 83-year-old comedy legend – best known for playing Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses – said he had a mulberry tree in his back garden, and picked its fruit to make preserves and jams.

The TV legend – also the star in A Touch of Frost, the Darling Buds of May and Open All Hours – lives with wife Gill in the tiny village of Ellesbororough in Buckinghamshire, home to just 800 folk.

But fruit and making jam is his “passion”, with mulberry his favourite. The dad-of-two said he almost always had jam on toast for brekkie, adding: “I’ll have cereal or toast and some homemade jam.

“Mulberry is my favourite. We’re lucky enough to have a mulberry tree [and] I enjoy making jams and chutneys…I find it relaxing.

“I should really launch my own label…’Made with Fine Quality Produce from the Estate of Sir David Jason’.”

He also revealed he speaks to his plants and trees just like King Charles and Alan Titchmarsh, saying: “I’ll start getting impatient and do a bit of coaxing ‘What’s the matter with you?’ If there’s no activity at all, I can hear myself shouting ‘Come on, you damn things!’”

Sir David also said he had a few birds running around his garden, including ducks and chickens. He said: “We have three chickens and two Aylesbury ducks.

“We’d love to give them free range, but we have too many foxes around to let them loose on their own.”

Meanwhile, Sir David also wants to break Hollywood at 83. He sent out a ‘come and get me’ plea to Tinseltown’s top producers so he can complete his career dream.

Reflecting on his glittering UK TV career, the British icon said: “I try not to look back too much. “The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there, but I couldn’t be happier with how my career has turned out.

“One of my ambitions is to be part of a major movie, as that would complete my dream of a Hollywood experience. Any producers out there?” Read the full story here.
