Former Celebrity Big Brother runner-up Amelia Lily has been rushed to A&E after complaints of an “exhausting illness”.
Amelia originally found fame after finishing the 2011 series of X Factor in third place – missing out to eventual winners, Little Mix. The 29-year old, who has also starred in Geordie Shore in her native North East, shared a worrying health update with her fans on Monday (February 5).
Taking to Instagram, the 2017 CBB star posted a snap from hospital in which she could be seen holding a coffee cup. Whilst she didn’t divulge details of her acute problem, Amelia referred to her long-term condition in the caption.

She told her 165,000 followers: “Been in the hospital for over 2 hours. Being diabetic is exhausting sometimes on us mentally. All of you that have it know what I mean.”
Amelia was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was just three-years old. The condition is caused by high levels of glucose in the blood. She previously recalled the early stages of her disease with Diabetes UK. “It was a very difficult time because I was so young,” she explained.
“When I was about eight I learnt how to do my own injections. I was very aware even at that age that I couldn’t always depend on my parents. One day I would grow up and move out so I would have to learn to do it myself.”
She continued: “I remember the first time I did it, standing in the kitchen at home with my mum. She stuck a empty needle in her belly just to reassure me that it was going to be ok. I did it, and I was taken out as a treat afterwards. But even then I don’t think I really understood the importance of what I was doing.”
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard at times and I think anyone with diabetes would agree with me. But it does get easier and it becomes part of your daily routine.”

After nursing Amelia through diabetes during her childhood, the roles reversed in 2020 when her 60-year old mum Aranka was diagnosed with the condition too. “We share a unique bond and the diagnosis has definitely brought us closer together,” Amelia told the Mirror that year.
“Although I’m sad for her because her life has changed drastically, she’s dealt with it so well. Mum tells me I would run behind the sofa to hide from getting my injections when I was little. – I can’t imagine how sad that must have been for her.”
