Ryan Gosling has spilled the beans about Margot Robbie’s unique demand on the set of Barbie, saying: “Everyone had to do it, or they’d be fined!”
The 43-year-old actor revealed that his co-star Margot, 33, initiated a “pink day”, where everyone had to don pink attire or face a fine. “No one ever had to pay it because, especially the men on the crew, were so excited to wear pink,” he shared.
He went on: “And not just to wear it because they didn’t feel like they had permission in their lives to wear it. But also, because they just were in such awe, as we all were, of what Margot and Greta [Gerwig] were creating.”

He likened the experience to the iconic scene in Dead Poets Society, saying: “And it became like at the end of Dead Poets Society where they stand on their desks and are like, ‘Oh Captain, My Captain.’ It was just a way for everyone to show how much we admired what they were doing.”
Gosling confessed via OK!: “I felt like I would have done anything to work with them [Margot and Greta], but I didn’t realise that I would do anything. Including shave my legs, get a spray tan and bleach my hair. And yeah, just Ken as hard as I could.”
Despite being the highest-grossing film of 2023 and up for eight Oscars, ‘Barbie’ has stirred controversy as leading actress Margot and director Greta were overlooked for nominations.
Margot and Greta were sadly overlooked for Oscar nominations for their stellar work as lead actress and director, respectively. Ryan, who himself bagged a nomination for Best Supporting Actor previously defended his team members.
He acknowledged his honour but emphasised: “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”
He added: “Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history.” Insisting on their worthy contributions, he remarked: “Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees.”
