The Oscars 2024 is set to be the most X-rated ever with ‘sex on the agenda’ again.
This year’s Oscars contenders are the most X-rated ever – as industry experts say how sex is making a comeback in Hollywood. The 96th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will be held on Sunday night. The Oscars will take place at the Dolly Theatre in Hollywood, with Jimmy Kimmel as the host.
The award show celebrates the best movies and actors from 2023 but this year, the films got a bit spicy. Poor Things, which is up for Best Picture, features several X-rated scenes involving Emma Stone’s character Bella romping with a variety of men. The film is nominated for 11 awards including, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Cinematography.

Emma’s character got her a nomination for Best Actress. She recently won Best Film Actress in a Comedy or Musical at the 2024 Golden Globes, reports the Mirror. And Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan has inserted his first ever sex scene into one of his films, with a topless Florence Pugh getting passionate with Cillian Murphy.
Oppenheimer is anticipated to sweep as the film was nominated for 13 Academy Awards. Alexandra Villa of In House PR, who has worked on Oscar campaigns for movies including Silver Linings Playbook and Slumdog Millionaire, claims that producers are responding to the rise of sites such as Only Fans and trying to entice new fans.
“It’s no secret that Hollywood has struggled financially the last few years. So throwing in more sex to movies is a roll of the dice to make more money,” she says. “But it seems quite clear that since the rise of Only Fans and other such sites, some consumers’ mentalities are changing. And like any other business Hollywood must adapt to what customers want and expect for their money.”
“Graphic sexuality in cinema like fashion comes and goes in cycles. “We are now witnessing a re-emergence of ‘in your face fornication. ‘ Will it last? Who knows.””. Other critics say that after the MeToo movement and the pandemic worries, sex is making a big comeback in films. One said: “It’s as if the brakes are off and anything goes again.”
The host of the big awards night told Lara Speer from Good Morning America he’s going to dress up as characters from the nominated flicks, starting with Emma’s role in Poor Things and ending with Oppenheimer. Jimmy even made a funny comment about trying to drop 80lbs during the show.
