Countdown star Susie Dent makes morbid confession about the Channel 4 TV set

Susie Dent wants to haunt the Countdown set when she dies.

The show’s resident boffin, 59, is hoping she can return to it as a ghost to spook everyone from beyond the grave. She said: “I figured I’m going to haunt the Countdown studio because I don’t like the thought of anyone taking over from me… it would be strange.”

Susie sits behind a desk in the show’s Dictionary Corner so she reckons that means she’ll return without any legs. She said: “If I do haunt it, it’s only going to be half of me because people only ever see the top half.,

“I think there was a debate on QI once as to whether I had legs at all and they decided I was a salamander. So I’m going to be torso only.

“So I think in that spirit it’s just going to be the top half of me swooping around and definitely haunting the person trying to take over.” Fans can hear her full interview on the latest Where There’s A Will There’s A Wake podcast.

This comes after Susie faced a cancer scare last year, after a makeup artist on Countdown pointed out a potential concern. Speaking to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio’s breakfast show, she revealed how she went to get a mole checked out after fearing the worst.

Susie explained: “I had one under my eye, a few years ago now. And it just felt like a little cut. So it was a kind of linear one and just wouldn’t heal.

“And I just kept putting lots of different cream on it. So, I had it for too long. I had it for about a year. My GP said, ‘I’m going to say the word carcinoma, but don’t panic.’ And then they took it off, they kind of excised it. So, I’ve got a bit of a kind of scar under my eye.”
