Golden Buzzer act Sydnie Christmas has attracted backlash from Britain’s Got Talent viewers.
Amanda Holden handed out the first Golden Buzzer of the 17th season on Saturday (April 20). She gave it to singer and gym receptionist Sydnie who wowed judges Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon with her performance of Tomorrow from the iconic musical Annie.
The 28-year-old was thrilled to be put straight through to the final of the ITV talent show and opened up about her difficult journey to success as a singer, explaining there had been times when she questioned if she had made the right career choice. She said: “I was pinching myself.

“I thought this couldn’t be real… this doesn’t happen to people like me. I have wanted to do this forever. To be on stage, entertain, perform and sing… singing is my thing. I have been trying to make that happen my entire career”.
However, some ITV viewers were unhappy after a deep dive on social media revealed that Sydnie, originally from Kent, has already starred on the West End, suggesting her performing career wasn’t going too badly after all. It turns out she’s already appeared in major productions such as Starlight Express, reports the Mirror.
“It’s a load of crap, ive just looked her up, been acting since 9, graduating from Performing School Art school, been in Starlight Express”, one viewer commented on X. Another said: “Sydnie Christmas is a professional singer/actress already working in the West End. Thought #bgt was for amateurs not professional. She’s taken golden buzzer off someone more deserving.”
“She’s literally been on stage in starlight express and others, after her graduating from performing arts school”, A third echoed. “Ah the ‘I just want to be on West End’ singer who has performed in Grease and Starlight Express. I’d respect someone so much more if they’re just honest about their experience. She was in Starlight Express for 4 years.”
“sydnie dreams of being on stage? Seems like it’s already happened? works front of house at a gym though.”
One viewer even shared a home video of Sydnie singing from nine years ago. A glance at Sydnie Christmas’ Instagram account, confirms her long-standing role in the stage production of Starlight Express.
She announced last year that she was “hanging up her skates”. The post includes a photo from one of her performances and is captioned with a touching message: “2 and a half contracts. 4 years later. I hang up my skates. Memories I won’t ever forget. People I will cherish forever. Thank you Starlight Express.”
