BGT winner George Sampson now – hair transplants, tattoos and gorgeous girlfriend

George Sampson rose to fame after becoming the second winner of Britain’s Got Talent in 2008.

He originally auditioned for series one, won by opera singer Paul Potts, but failed to reach the semi-finals after being unable to convince judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden he was up to the challenge.

A year later, however, he wowed ITV viewers with a modern dance rendition of Singin’ in the Rain to land the BGT crown. Various television appearances and endorsement deals followed, with a teenage George also releasing music before amicably severing ties with Simon Cowell in 2009.

George largely remained out of the limelight until 2016 when he briefly joined the cast of Emmerdale, whilst he appeared on Celebrity Coach Trip alongside Roxanne Pallett three years later. As BGT makes a welcome return to our screens, Daily Star take a look at what George is up to now and what else he’s achieved since his TV success.

Now aged 30, George is a regular on the theatre stage. He has just finished starring in the lead role in a Robin Hood pantomime, which toured the UK. Speaking before the final show earlier this week, he penned on Instagram: “This past month has been an absolute roller coaster!”

Sharing a snap of himself in costume holding a canine co-star, he continued: “Playing Robin Hood on a national tour has been an unreal experience, thanks to everyone that came to watch the show! Here’s me and my mate Sully having a much needed cuddle between scenes.”

It came just weeks after he starred as the Prince in Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs in Weymouth, Dorset in another panto run over Christmas. George has also appeared in several other productions including Peter Pan and Cinderella, meanwhile.

Hair transplants

Remarkably, George has undergone three hair transplants in recent years. He once appeared on This Morning with a receding hair line, revealing he had spent £9,000 on his first two procedures.

Speaking to then-hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about his third, he said: “I’m so happy. It’s difficult. I still get hundreds of men messaging me about it. I felt like an old man with a babyface, I had to wake up and look in the mirror and think I hate my hairline.”

Describing his head as a “landing strip of bare skin”, he revealed former England footballer Wayne Rooney was a source of inspiration having had a transplant himself.

George later revealed that he had been previously been diagnosed with alopecia and suffered his hair loss due to stress, genetics and spinning on his head during his dance routines.

Tattoos

A far cry from his squeaky-clean teen image, George showcased his tattoo sleeves in 2021. Commenting on a video showing off his ink which was etched onto him on a trip to Skegness, one fan gushed: “Feckin awesome pal, love the logo on the cap.”

And another added: “That is sick man.” The clip revealed George’s latest work was a huge image of himself performing Singin’ in the Rain on stage. His other arm, meanwhile, was a tribute to his acting work, featuring video reels and pantomime masks.

Long-term girlfriend

At Christmas George shared a loving clip of a festive smooch between the pair as they played out a mock love scene. The pair love to travel, meanwhile, and in the past year have shared albums of snaps from their trips to New York City, Venice and Los Angeles.
