Hollywood beauty Lucy Hale was “mortified” by her audition for a racy movie.
The former child star shot to fame back in the 2000s, on shows like Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide and Drake and Josh. But it wasn’t until 2010, when Lucy was propelled to stardom thanks to the teen drama series Pretty Little Liars.
For seven years, Lucy played Aria Montgomery on the show, which amassed a loyal legion of fans. The singer also scooped up plenty of big awards too over the years, including seven Teen Choice Awards.

The hit teen series introduced fans to Spencer, Aria, Hanna, and Emily – four estranged friends who reunite after a mysterious figure threatens to expose their deepest secrets. After a successful seven-season run, the ABC show came to its conclusion and ended in 2017.
But a few years ago, during her PLL stint, it seems Lucy was looking to shed her good girl image. As a result, she decided to audition for a rather raunchy blockbuster flick. In 2015, the world was left shocked after 50 Shades Of Grey was released in cinemas. Based on the novel by E. L. James, the sex-filled flick follows virgin Anastasia Steele who meets handsome billionaire Christian Grey.
Things go all kinds of racy as his obsession with bondage is exposed and Anastasia enters into a contract as his submissive. As expected, there’s a ton of raunchy screens packed within the film’s 125-run-time. And keen to get down and dirty on-screen for the movie was Pretty Little Liar star Lucy. However, her audition for the role of Anastasia Steele, which ended up going to Dakota Johnson, didn’t exactly go to plan.
In 2020, she spoke to E Online, where she recalled an audition experience that she will never forget – saying it “scared the crap of her.” Speaking about auditioning for 50 Shades Of Grey, Lucy said to the publication: “I was very young. It had to have been, not 10 years ago, it was a while ago and I was mortified.”
She explained: “It wasn’t actual scenes from the movie, but it was a very sexually forward monologue and I didn’t really even know what I was saying in the audition. I was a little naive about it all, but yes, I did audition. I obviously didn’t get the part. But it was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition [like that].”
