Liam Gallagher has told his fans he’ll perform “in Lidl” should his Manchester Co-op Live gigs receive the chop next month.
The venue has been plagued with issues in the past two weeks, forcing several grand opening events to be postponed. First, a Peter Kay performance was shelved at the 11th hour, prompting the Co-Op’s general manager, Gary Roden to quit.
The Black Keys soon fell foul of problems at the £365million arena, before rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie saw his show cancelled earlier this week with fans already in their seats. Unable to guarantee concerts of Keane and Olivia Rodrigo could safely, Co-op Live postponed those too, whilst Take That have moved their shows to a rival venue to avoid any risks.

Now Liam has come up with an alternative plan – and it seems the supermarket is happy to accommodate the 51-year old former Oasis frontman.

Responding to a fan on Friday (May 3) who questioned what would happen if the venue wasn’t sorted in time for his 30th Anniversary of Definitely Maybe shows, Liam quipped: “Gig in LIDL.” Making a pun of the album’s title, Lidl soon responded: “Maybe? Definitely. @liamgallagher.”
The store then hilariously renamed some Oasis hits into a supermarket-themed titles, adding: “Liam Gallagher @ Lidl Arena – Setlist: – Lidl by Lidl, Champagne Superoffer, Super(market) Sonic, The Importance of Being Lidl, Tiger Roll With It, Don’t Look Back in Hanger, Some Might Save.” And one of the store’s followers added another suggestion: “Where did it all go wrong – a tribute to @TheCoopLive.”

Liam’s latest tour will see him play Oasis’ legendary 1994 debut album in full as well as several other tracks from the era. The concerts, which are also expected to star the band’s original guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, sold out in minutes last year.
Bonehead spoke of his excitement at the shows to Radio X’s Toby Tarrant on Christmas Day, admitting: “It’s gonna be incredible. I can’t wait. There’s songs on there I really can’t wait to play again. Songs like Up In The Sky I just cannot wait. I’ve been sort of running through it at home and just like, woah.”

Asked if he’s had to familiarise himself with the 30-year old songs again, he continued: “There’s songs on there I haven’t done since 1999. It’s a case of, ‘I better have a quick run through of how this one goes’, but as soon as you put a guitar round you and put on the song on and play along I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah that’s how it goes. Course you know it’.”
