Red Dwarf legend Craig Charles believes Bez is the ‘second coming’ as he walked through fire

Red Dwarf legend Craig Charles says he reckons Bez is the ‘second coming’ – after watching him walk through FIRE.

The 59-year-old, who starred as curry-loving slob Dave Lister in the hit show, said he was at Glastonbury one year and was hanging out with Shaun Ryder and Bez from the Happy Mondays.

He said they were all sitting round a massive campfire on hay bales when he saw Bez – real name Mark Berry, now 60 – walking towards him.

When he got to the fire, however, Bez ‘didn’t stop’ and walked straight through the flames.

Craig, who went on to play cabbie Lloyd Mullaney in Coronation Street from 2005 to 2015, said he thought he was watching the ‘second coming’ of Jesus.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ will return to Earth after his ascension to Heaven – with many ‘waiting’ for him to return in human form.

Speaking this week, Craig said his best ‘celebrity moment’ was ‘sitting on straw bales round a campfire with Bez and the rest of the boys from the Happy Mondays’.

He added: “I remember sitting around the campfire when Bez walked into the flames and came out the other side, totally unscathed.

“I saw (him) walk through the fire and not get burned…I thought he was the second coming.

“They were crazy nights.”

Asked if he quizzed Bez about him being the ‘second coming’, he said the Happy Mondays dancer told him it was ‘just the angle’ he’d been watching from.

Craig, however, says Bez was covering up, adding: “I swear I saw him do it.”
