The popular weather presenter originally announced their engagement while presenting live on air from the Chelsea Flower Show. She was previously married to Jimmy Kirkwood, divorcing in 2008.

Speaking about her meeting with her husband, she said: “I met Steve at a work function about seven years ago. I was drinking an espresso martini, and Steve very sensibly wasn’t drinking because he’s a policeman and had work the next day.”

“We went on our first lunch date shortly after and had sandwiches and tea. It’s strange to think that neither of us had planned on going to the function but we changed our minds at the last minute, and if one of us hadn’t, we’d never have met. It was a real sliding doors moment.”

Now living in a quaint village, Carol, 62, boasts of Steve’s sweet gesture of brewing her a cuppa every morning at 2.45am as she preps for her early morning TV stint. She commented: “I call mine ‘baby tea’ because I have it so weak with loads of milk. My favourite is Tetley, but if you make me a cup of any brand I’m grateful.[“

Carol, was noticeably absent yesterday (July 15), with her fellow meteorologist Matt Taylor stepping in for now. He took to X (formerly Twitter) and quipped: “Good morning. We’ve sent @carolkirkwood off to see if she can persuade summer to pay us a longer visit.”

Matt didn’t reveal when Carol would return, jokingly adding: “]In the meantime I’m looking after the @BBCBreakfast forecast this week and …oh look …more rain.”
