‘I won’t do Strictly – because I’m not ready to cheat on my husband,’ says TV star

One celebrity has revealed the real reason why they won’t take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

The beloved BBC dance competition is set to return for its 20th anniversary series this autumn. The star-studded line-up has already been revealed and will see the likes of JLS hunk JB Gill and Love Island star Tasha Ghouri take to the dancefloor.

Also joining them will be funnyman Chris McCausland and sitcom star Sarah Hadland who will be swapping their microphones for a pair of dance shoes. As fans excitedly prepare for the show, fellow comic Katherine Ryan has explained why she’s not ready to join the competition.

Speaking to Daily Mail, the 41-year-old explained she will continue to turn down the show because she’s not ready to be unfaithful to her partner Bobby Koostra. The reality show has long been known for the ‘curse’ that befalls many contestants each year.

The unfortunate curse often sees stars dating their dance partner’s, despite many of them being in relationships at the time. She told the outlet: “I would, but I don’t think I’m a good enough dancer, and I’m not ready to cheat on my husband.”

The mum-of-three then quipped that this doesn’t mean she won’t change her mind about joining the show in the future. She teased: “But down the road, I would be excited. I would be welcoming the curse.”

The TV star and her partner Bobby were childhood sweethearts at high school. Decades later, the pair reconnected before tying the knot and having two children together – Fenna, two, and Fred, three.

Several stars have fallen victim to the curse since the show began in 2004. This includes Natasha Kaplinsky and Brendan Cole, Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalex, and Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton.

Katherine isn’t the only celebrity shunning the TV show, after Gemma Collins declared that she won’t take part due to the scandal surrounding the programme. The famed TV show is currently facing its biggest crisis across its 20-years on the small screen.

Over the past six months, the flagship channel has been hit with a wave of complaints from past contestants following claims of “abuse” and “bullying”. Professional dancer Graziano Di Prima, 30, was axed from the show amid allegations that he hit and spat at his dance partner Zara McDermott, 27, during rehearsals.

His exit came months after Giovanni Pernice was also axed from the show as the broadcaster conducted an internal investigation after Amanda Abbington accused the star bullying. Following the investigation, each contestant will be assigned a chaperone to support them throughout their rehearsals on the show.

Fans will have to stay tuned to see how this year’s contestants will fare on the reality show. Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Sign up for our free Daily Star Showbiz newsletter.
