New Strictly star Toyah Willcox thinks we’re all made of ‘space dust’ and slept in a coffin

New Strictly Come Dancing star Toyah Willcox believes we are all made “from space dust”.

The punk rocker also revealed she had to give up sleeping in a coffin after a week because it was “too cold and hard”. Toyah, 66, who has signed up to the hit BBC show, said: “I believe that we all come from space dust, so there is definitely physical influence.

“I collect very rare crystals that give me greater connection and greater energy than anything I’ve known before. I’m talking about crystals that weigh 20 kilos. I have a garnet that is so large, I can’t lift it. I have a ruby in its natural state.

“My Colombian jade, I find that when I’m writing I can touch it and it really adds a creative strength to what I’m doing.”

The I Want To Be Free singer tried kipping in a coffin at a Battersea warehouse called Mayhem where she lived and rehearsed from 1977 to 1978 – but could only stick it for a week. She said: “I tried! We lived opposite a funeral parlour and we got on very well with them.

“They also had a morgue for people who’d just died – I remember once they said, did I want to come in and see Dick Emery? Absolutely no! Not right! But they were incredibly supportive of this bunch of wacky kids who were living in this warehouse – we got an awful lot of wood off them to build shelves and beds.

“They gave me a fibreglass accident coffin, for when ambulances or morgue vans have to pick bodies up, and I slept in that for about a week, but it was too cold and hard. It was a fabulous creative centre but very rough and ready. It had one loo and no heating. When I got into a dressing room that had a shower it was f***ing great!”
