Signs Martine McCutcheon’s marriage was failing – cryptic posts and birthday ‘snub’

It seems there were signs Martine McCutcheon and her husband were going to split.

Martine announced on Thursday (August 22) that she and her husband Jack McManus have called time on their marriage. The Love Actually star revealed that it was Jack who decided to end their relationship after being together for 18 years.

Confirming their split, Martine wrote on Instagram: “After much thought and consideration, Jack has decided it’s best for us to separate after 18 years together and I accept his decision,’ she began the statement posted to her stories. We are both so very blessed and grateful for our beautiful, 9 years old son Rafferty, who’s happiness and welfare has always been, and will continue to be, our number 1 priority.”.

Martine poured her heart out to Jack on his 40th birthday, less than three weeks ago. She shared a loving message to her partner on Instagram, mentioning that his dad had passed away.

Part of the post read: “Darling Jack, Happy 40th Birthday Darling. I know it’s a weird one and bittersweet as you have lost your Darling Dad, Mick and he was your best friend… It’s so hard to see you miss someone so much, but you know when I lost my brother that I understand your grief and pain.

However, Jack didn’t reply to the emotional birthday post and didn’t ‘like’ it. Perhaps he didn’t see it, but lots of Jack’s friends and family flooded the comments with supportive messages.

He posed with the actress and Rafferty on the staircase in their Halloween costumes He captioned the post: “Welcome to the circus. #family.”

Meanwhile, Martine commented: “We most definitely are a circus! Love you baby. So glad you had such a good birthday. You truly deserved it and I know LJ was with us making it all happen. X”

Martine recently jetted off to Marbella to soak up the sun with Rafferty. But surprisingly, Jack didn’t join the pair on the lavish summer holiday.

Martine shared lots of snaps from the trip and mentioned how much fun she was having with her son. She wrote: “In the pool with my little water baby! I love our little cuddles and games…. Nothing else fuels me like Rafferty does.

“He’s at such a lovely age… He’s like my little bestie these days! Getting some vitamin D and then we are off for dinner. “

Martine had been sharing some cryptic posts in the lead up to her split from Jack becoming public. One message posted on her Instagram spoke about “letting go” and “giving them space” before the announcement.

The post read: “Let go. Love them from a distance. Let them figure out their feelings, what they want in life, where they’re going, and who they want to be. Focus on yourself and your goals while you’re giving them space. And remember, you’re not obligated to still be there waiting when they’re ready.”

Martine also shared another message which read: “When it doesn’t bother you anymore like it used to, that’s peace.” She then reposted a clip from Looking at Life with Dee where she read a piece written by Cassie Phillips called ‘Let Them’ about letting someone go who doesn’t appreciate you.
