Dave Grohl’s kids after love child news – from music money to Nirvana question

Dave Grohl just became a dad again. He admitted he had fathered a child outside of his marriage in a bombshell statement.

The Foo Fighters frontman first shot to fame as Nirvana’s drummer. Despite leading a life filled with non-stop rock ‘n’ roll and even dabbling in Hollywood films, he’s still found time to raise a family.

Since 2003, he’s been married to producer and director Jordyn Blum, and together they have three daughters: Violet, Harper, and Ophelia.

And this week, he announced the birth of another daughter. He said on Instagram: “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”

He went on: “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”

But what about his three daughters with wife Jordyn? Turns out they’re following in their father’s musical footsteps…

Dave and Jordyn welcomed their first daughter, Violet Maye Grohl, on April 15, 2006.

Now 18, Violet has already shown that her dad isn’t the only rock star in the family. In 2018, she joined her dad on stage at a charity gig to cover Adele’s When We Were Young. At just 13, Violet also performed with her dad and the remaining members of Nirvana, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, at another charity concert.

Since then, Violet has become a regular feature at Foo Fighters gigs, notably joining the band for their headline set at Leeds Festival in 2019. She also lent her vocals to the group’s 10th and latest album, Medicine At Midnight.

Dave revealed in a chat with the BBC that his daughter Violet’s contribution to his album was so significant that she earned a paycheck. He said: “It seemed very natural [but] it didn’t seem official until my accountant called a few months ago and asked where she should deposit Violet’s cheque.”

He added: “And I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ She said, ‘Well, she sang on the album so she has to be paid for playing on the record.’ And I said, ‘You can take that money and give it to me, and I’ll put it in an account for Violet that she can open when she’s 18 years old!'”

Harper Willow Grohl

Harper Willow Grohl, Dave’s second child, was born on April 17, 2009. Like her older sister, Harper, now 15, is also following her father’s musical path.

She made her drumming debut at Iceland’s Secret Solstice Festival in June 2017, joining the Foo Fighters on stage to play Queen’s We Will Rock You at just eight years old.

Harper has shown a particular interest in her dad’s past life with Nirvana. During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Dave shared a surprising story: “Come As You Are came on the radio, and she started singing. She’s saying every word!

“I’ve never played her that record, we don’t talk about Nirvana and stuff, and she was singing every word to the song!”

He also mentioned that she had asked him if the late singer Kurt Cobain was shy, which left Dave slightly taken aback as this was the first question Harper had ever asked about Nirvana.

Dave opened up about the touching moment with his daughter: “I was like, ‘Yeah, he kind of was.’ And then she said, ‘Was he shy around people he didn’t know or was he also shy around people he did know?’ And it was interesting, it was really the first time she started really asking me questions about Kurt. That was a first. It was great.”

Ophelia Saint Grohl

Ophelia Saint Grohl, Dave and Jordyn’s youngest daughter, arrived in the world on August 1, 2014.

Now 10 years old, Ophelia has got rock and roll running through her veins, being part of The Grohlettes alongside her sisters.

The Grohl girls have been seen supporting their rockstar dad, joining him for a 2019 stint on Ryan’s Mystery Playdate and backing him up for his 2020 tribute to Nandi Bushell.

Proud papa Dave gushed to PBS NewsHour about his homegrown band: “In my house, I’ve got a full rock band. And they’re all women, and it makes me really happy to see. It’s really cool.”

Time will tell if his new baby girl will also inherit the musical gene…
