Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan’s grandson charged with airport break-ins

Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan’s grandson has been charged with an airport robbery.

Jake Paul Hogan was arrested and detained by police last month after he was believed to be a man seen breaking into Sydney International Airport. The incident, which took place on August 10, saw a man break into a restricted area to steal a bike worth more than $5,000AUD (£3,820).

Officers from the Australian Police said that Jake had used tools specifically designed to break into houses during the break-in, which targeted the employee bike rack room. When the force found Jake following the incident, they allege he had such tools on him.

According to the police, Jake Paul had managed to break his way into the room, which was situated in the car park of the airport, which is one of Australia’s busiest commercial ports. The 34-year-old is then alleged to have stolen a champagne coloured Surly Ogre bike, which was said to be custom built.

Some three days later on August 13, officers allege he came back to the airport after 5am and stole two other bikes, believed to be black mountain bikes. It was then that he was found and apprehended by officers as investigations were launched.

Following their lines of enquiry, the force officially charged Jake with six offences in connection to the break-ins at the airport. Receiving the charges on August 28, the grandson of the Hollywood icon had already been in police custody over unrelated accusations of breaking and entering.

The man was brought before Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday (September 11), where a judge adjourned the case until later this month. He was represented by his lawyer, who was able to keep him in remand, but remains in police custody.

Jake Paul Hogan has recently pleaded guilty to a string of other offences in recent days – blaming his criminal streak on an addiction to the drug ice. According to the Daily Mail Australia, Jake was immediately brought into a prison rehab programme designed to get him to kick the habit.

In order to get access to the facility, Jake was told he would need to plead guilty to his crimes whilst at a drug court in New South Wales. He did so, admitting that he had been hooked on methamphetamine for years – and will now be placed in the Compulsory Drug Treatment Correctional Centre in Parklea Prison, some 40 kilometres west of Sydney.

Jake Paul is the grandson of legendary Aussie actor Paul Hogan, who shot to fame in the Hollywood blockbuster Crocodile Dundee. The 84-year-old has won a stream of awards, including Golden Globes and the Logie Award for Best New Talent in 1973 for his work on the films.
