Liam Payne’s dating history – ‘pattern’ confession to claiming son ‘ruined’ Cheryl romance

Liam Payne has tragically died at the age of 31. The former One Direction star had been in Buenos Aires, Argentina before he fell from a hotel balcony.

In May, the singer made headlines when he appeared on Logan Paul’s podcast and spoke about clashes with his former bandmates as well as claiming that Simon Cowell formed One Direction because of him.

Liam also caused more controversy when it came to his love life, after being accused of cheating on his fiancée Maya Henry. The Strip That Down singer had a colourful dating record, something he’s even admitted himself.

During an appearance on Steven Bartlett’s Diary Of A CEO podcast, he admitted that he has a “pattern” in relationships and that he’s “not very good at them”.

He said: “I’ve just not been very good at relationships, and I know what my pattern of things is with relationships, I feel at this point I’m just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else.”

As he turns 29, here’s a look back at Liam’s rocky love life.

Was Liam Payne in a relationship?

One of Liam’s final photos shared online was with bikini-clad girlfriend Kate Cassidy. The pair met at a bar where Kate worked as a waitress in Charleston, South Carolina in October 2022.

Kate lifted the lid on their first encounter last month on TikTok, she recalled: “On the way to work my manager texted me and was like ‘Liam Payne from One Direction is here, you’re going to be taking care of him tonight.'”

She said: ‘When I first approached him, I got nervous and stopped and turned around. I guess we made awkward eye contact for a second. We talk about it because he said to [his friend] Conor, ‘Oh my God, did you see that girl walking over here? I’m not leaving this bar until I get her number.’

“Then two minutes later I come back around. He was like, ‘is there anyway I can get a table inside?’ He’s literally sitting inside drinking Red Bulls and I didn’t think anything of it, I just thought he was overly friendly, I didn’t think he was flirting with me.”

After a spot of confusion over international codes, the pair got each other’s numbers and met the next day.

Kate added: “We went for lunch which went really well and then went bowling and then went on a ghost tour, we basically had one of our first dates in a graveyard.

‘He extended his flight and then extended it again the next day so he ended up in Charleston for three days. That’s the story of how we met.”

Danielle Peazer

Liam met Danielle Peazer while on The X Factor in 2010. The pair hit it off and his romance with Danielle became his first public relationship since his rise to fame with One Direction.

Like a few of his romances, the couple had an on and off relationship until 2013, when they split for good.

It was reported that their relationship came to an end because of conflicting busy schedules, making it difficult to maintain a long distance relationship while Liam was touring at the time.

In June this year, Liam and Danielle were spotted together nine years after their breakup when they were photographed leaving the Soccer Aid afterparty in London at 3am.

Sophia Smith

Following his split from Danielle, Liam began dating his childhood friend Sophia Smith.

Liam and Sophia originally met while at school together and started dating in 2013. Their relationship lasted two years before Sophia decided to call it quits.

An insider told Hollywood Life: “Sophia felt that their relationship was at a point where they either made a decision to get married and settle down, or they go on and do something else and experience more of the world.

“She chose the latter because she’s still so young. Sophia has always been an independent woman and believes she has a lot to achieve. She wants to remain amicable with Liam, but knows that’ll be harder now.”

Liam later told The Sun: “I’m absolutely devastated to have split with Sophia.

“Being on tour all this year and being away from her was so hard. We spent so much time apart. But in order to do right by somebody, sometimes it’s better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what’s better for them.”

Cheryl

One of Liam’s most famous relationships was his romance with former X Factor judge Cheryl.

Liam first met the Girls Aloud singer when he first auditioned for The X Factor back in 2008 at the age of just 14. Two years later, Cheryl said that he was “cute” when he auditioned for the show again and went on to form One Direction.

In 2016 fans were shocked to learn that the then-22-year-old Liam had started dating Cheryl, who is 10 years older than him, and the following year they welcomed their first child together, son Bear.

But just a year after becoming parents, the couple confirmed they had split.

In a statement, they said: “We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.”

Earlier this year, Liam caused controversy when he said that Bear had “ruined” his relationship with Cheryl while appearing on Logan Paul’s podcast.

He said: “I like to talk to other new dads. You don’t know what is coming and it’s different.

“And to be honest with you, it ruined a relationship for me at that point but for all the right reasons. I was so excited for him to be born that I was actually worried if I wouldn’t love him enough.”

Naomi Campbell

Another relationship that shocked fans was Liam’s fling with supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Rumours that the pair were dating started in January 2019 as they began openly flirting on social media.

Liam had left a lusty comment on one Naomi’s Instagram pictures, saying: “Perfection in a person…don’t give me those eyes.”

The supermodel also commented on a shirtless picture that Liam had posted, saying “beautiful soul”.

The pair were spotted out in public several times together but it was later reported that their romance had “fizzled out”.

Maya Henry

Liam and Maya had a turbulent relationship. The singer first met actress Maya in 2015 when she went to a One Direction meet and greet, but it would be a few years before anything happened between the pair.

They were first rumoured to have started dating in 2018 after being spotted together around London, just weeks after Liam’s split from Cheryl.

It was then reported that they had briefly split, before rekindling their romance in the summer of 2019. In August that year they finally confirmed their relationship and by September they took the next step and went Instagram official.

In February 2020 they were rumoured to have split again, but the speculation was put to rest in August 2020 when they confirmed they were engaged as Maya was pictured wearing a glitzy engagement ring reportedly worth a whopping £3million.

Nine months after their engagement the couple called it quits again, with Liam confirming that he was single on Steven Bartlett’s podcast as he said: “I am indeed. I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people.”

But it wasn’t long until the on again/off again couple were together again, as it was confirmed in September 2021 that they had reconciled as they appeared on the red carpet together.

However, less than a year after getting back together it seems that they’ve finally called it quits for good after Liam was pictured with new girlfriend Aliana Mawla shortly after confirming their split in May this year.

Liam started dating model Aliana Mawla in May 2022, although they first crossed paths in 2018 when she starred in his music video for the song Familiar.

Their romance was revealed when a fan page shared pictures of him with his arms wrapped around Aliana, which she had posted to her Instagram story.

The photos sparked cheating allegations as Liam hadn’t confirmed his split from fiancée Maya Henry, who commented on the pictures saying: “I love all of the fans so much but please stop sending me these pictures of my fiancé wrapped around another woman.

“This is not me and it’s hard enough knowing this has happened without seeing it. Enough now.”

But a source close to Liam denied the cheating rumours, telling MailOnline that he and Maya had actually split a month earlier.

Aliana also denied the cheating accusations, as her representative told E! News: “Aliana is very taken back by the accusations that have been made regarding a relationship with Liam while he was still engaged or involved with [his] ex fiancée.

“Under no circumstances would Aliana have involved herself in a public relationship as such if there was any truth to the comments that have been made. She is very protective of her personal life and has nothing more to say at the moment other than she is very happy and does not wish to discuss this situation moving forward.”

Despite this, sources close to Maya told the Mirror: “Press reports about them splitting up over a month ago are complete rubbish.

“All of her stuff is at his house still and her car!”
