There’s one lengthy Iron Maiden song that has an instrumental part longer than five minutes – which gives frontman Bruce Dickson just enough time for a brew off stage
Wrinkly rocker Bruce Dickinson sneaks off stage for a reviving cup of tea during lengthy guitar solos, he has revealed.
Iron Maiden’s front man, 66, who has had two hip replacements, said the solos during live gigs give him a chance to put his feet up. The Run to the Hills singer said he always chooses the same song to nip back stage for a brew.
He said: “There is one song and that’s Death of the Celts – its a long song, ten minutes, with a lengthy instrumental part that’s five minutes and twenty seconds.
“I know that because that’s how long I’ve got to have a cup of tea in the middle.”
Dickinson has been on two gruelling live tours in 2024 promoting his solo album The Mandrake Tour and with Iron Maiden on the band’s Future Past Tour.
The ageing rocker revealed earlier this year how he had a second hip op in 2023 after years of having pain-killing injections following a first hip op in 2021.
He also beat throat cancer in 2015 and has quit flying because he has lost his appetite for taking risks, he has said.
Speaking in the Christmas edition of Classic Rock magazine the singer said he was getting so old he feared his teeth might fall out in stage when he sings Alexander The Great – one of the band’s live classics.
He added: “I mean, I challenge anybody to sing ‘Hellenism he spread far and wide’ and not let lose their f***ing front teeth.”
Iron Maiden formed 48 years ago and has had massive hits with Run to the Hills and 2 Minutes to Midnight and has released 41 albums and sold 130million albums worldwide.
Sharon Osborne once branded the band’s frontman a“f****** a******” who was “jealous” of her husband and Black Sabbath legend, Ozzie Osborne.
Bruce and Shazza first fell out more than 15 years ago, when Maiden were headlining an Ozzfest tour and Bruce was accused of criticising Ozzy on stage.
Bruce even said his band would never feature “in a reality show”, in an apparent dig at Black Sabbath man’s MTV series, The Osbournes.
Sharon responded by encouraging the audience to throw eggs at him during a concert.
